Here's my Klean with hole mod. The filter is still doing its job quite well. Nicely matched pair.

CVJ Night Elf. Mid-bass has a nice baby bump. Right side has some nice upper air extension. 🤣
Tbf I only listened to the silver nozzle for about 5 mins, then switched it out for the black....(cos Andy stated that he preferred it)...I'll switch it back l8er to check it out.
I'd almost forgot about your mod - remember I said I couldn't damage the set? Well boomeranging is now totally outta the question obvs.

I knew within a few minutes of listening & scoffed at such a preposterous notion. That's where this hobby is nuts...cos when you presume things, it invariably comes back to bite you.
When that happens though it's more satisfying in a way (- i.e. when you expected zilch.) Now I'm listening to tracks that I'd never normally give ear-time to...all sounding as magical af.

First thing I do tmrw morn is the hole mod...(plus the nozzle switcheroonie)...still in a state of totl'y gobsmacked tbh...

Please answer that poll, will help me get more accurate data for my NAS/Media-server part 2 post. (Will have price comparison between the most popular streaming service compared to self hosting your own streaming service.)
Done brother! really miss your posts in recent days

Hello guys.
So, i received today the aful explorer and it sound great.
There is only one small problem.
Only the right earphone is working, the left earphone not working at all.
For the first time, i received defective iems.
It wasn't small problem at all actually, "lucky" it was the cable problem then. Hopefully you can get replacement cable from the seller soon, worst case just get upgrade cable.

My unwaifu'd CVJ Night Elf finally arrived. New faceplates look pretty good.

It is called CVJ Night Dusk :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I suspect this has something to do with any the Shock is my favorite IEM I've heard this year...
Bass is visceral and huge sounding!

Seriously, they implemented the bass greatly, much better than my Hype4, with mod (reduced upper mids and lower trebles so bass will be more prominent with under 4 setting on Yellow knob thus no bass bleed), they are better than Mest bass too (both are tight and fast) but the Shock bass is more impactful with that crazy texturing, precise.

And then bass is only 1 story from the greatness. Definitely my fave IEM in 2024 too, or from recent years. I reach my Shock more than Mest lately. Golden ratio between musicality and technicality are here with the Shock. Fine tuned, and with BCD. If I was forced to write the cons, while I would be struggling to find with the SQ, I would say faceplate looked like a toy, default cable is bit stiff and pull out the IEM that can make fit problem, fine tuning can take time etc.

Magical photos as always, From this clear photo above, love to see TSMR has know-how to implement the DD bass, they don't put any damper at all on the bass DD tube, maybe just foam damper inside the DD housing, but bass sounded open. Shock was my first TSMR IEM, no wonder there are lot of praises with TSMR X bass

So this arrived earlier than expected. The outer packaging box looked like it had been in a fight. But all was good opening it up . The packaging and the Unboxing experience feels Luxury for the price. The bottom drawer in the box hold all the cables and case.

The M5U had an empty battery when I unboxed it. (Time taken to charge to full was around 1hr 40 mins. was a slow charge at around 8 watts on my power meter , possibly cause its the first charge. But should have 10h – 3000mAh Battery with QC4.0+PD Fast-Charging ) I’ll be sure to test this out at some stage.

Here are a few things I’ve experienced so far.

Bluetooth mode : Connected the HiBy R1 via LDAC. This is an engineering feat. Absolutely love this. There is No noise floor or static , and the range is petty good if you carry M5U on your person.

USB mode : Connected with Mac Mini with Audirvāna. M5U - Changing from ā€œVTā€ - Tube mode and ā€œTMā€ - Solid State DAC mode , in real time is amazing. You can literally hear the difference while playing a track. There is however, a 1 second delay in the sound engaging , when switching Back to ā€œVTā€ -Tube mode from TM mode.

USB C ports : Having one for data and one for charging is a welcome feature. I noticed that a connection in USB Mode with my Mac mini will still use the on board Battery. But something to note if you are using USB mode and want to power the device you’ll need a separate cable to charge while it’s in use.

Power Button : Short press to turn the display off. long press to switch off/on.

I’ve tried Project M and TSMR ARMOR and TSMR SHOCK so far.

IMG_3205.jpeg

The sound :

Early impressions point to a very enjoyable source, and so far I can hear a clear difference from Tube mode ā€œVTā€ and solid state DAC mode ā€œTMā€ . Tube mode has a warmer , fuller sound making it more rich , smooth velverty and treble is silky taking the edge off. It has an Analog feel ( similar to my Fiio R2R K11 ) has, but M5U more so. I also like Solid State DAC mode , I feel its more natural sounding and fairly resolving. It’s no DC-Elite or RME ADI-2 fs DAC ( this is a bit unfair ) , but it would definitely give the Fiio BTR7 a run for it’s money.

Early days, But it really has me wanting to just try out every IEM in my collection. That may take a while, especially when you get hooked by the sound.

Looks fabulous...next year it makes me want to pair it up with the Shanling M5 Ultra - the DAP still top of my wishlist to hit CJ (London) with.

CVJ Night Elf is a nicely done triple DD that I picked up at $28. Very engaging sound. Rolled-off sub-bass in the graph doesn't feel lacking and still provides good atmosphere. Good solid mid-bass impact. Crystal clear vocals. Sibilance is not a problem, the S is still sharp to keep it incisive, but cuts off immediately. No overdampening on this set, everything is well textured and I don't find it shouty.

Damn good set for the price, no complaints here.

Thank-you, though the Armor doss hold more mids than the SHOCK.

TOOBS in da hizzouse!! Ozboy is a TOOBS man now! 1 second to change? That's shorter than the N3U. Every time you switch modes, it gives you a visual countdown to next mode enabled. Since the B4-X landed, I've been a sucker for TOOBS, and with the B4-X and N3U, I get a motorboat BROOMSKY with TOOBS! I also did the same thing with going through my entire IEM collection. The N3U was easier, since I'd gone through the great cull already, but the B4-X took some time to get through, since I had 60+ IEMs at the time!

Congrats on the fabulous new kit!

Btw, I love the BT mode (LDAC) on the Hiby R1. Not much of a fan of it wired, but BT mode, with my Capsules, it's absolutely awesome. It's got a very warm tilt, even in BT, so it really provides a natural EQ on the Capsules that makes them fantastic synergy sisters. And ridiculously compact. Took them out for a spin while doing DoorDash with the wife, when the power went out at our place.

This cable is breaking apart.
First impression is very important and aful is failed.
Yes, the iems sound excellent but my mood could've been much better.
I'm not going to buy from aful anymore
