NiceHCK have been on form lately with their “better” releases like Himalaya and DragonScale 2. I’ve been buying their cheapies on and off for years but it wasn’t until very recently that I started taking their higher end stuff seriously.

I wasn’t much keen on their prior approach of selling surplus stock from supplying this or that famous cable brand and marketing them as dupes (and those cables were frankly hit and miss - some downright meh, some decent, others simply not to my taste).

But when they announced they were creating their own prototypes from different types of cable material, I was interested. So when they released a small batch of these prototypes during the last Ali sale, I picked up a few. I spent some time getting to know them and these are the ones I like most.

Most of the listening was done on the Himalaya, Titan, Quattro and Impact.

SSOrpheus

IMG_4751.jpeg

Pure silver cable. Very transparent and resolving, particularly in the mids and treble. Not bright or sharp; instead a full sound, more natural and less aggressive than you might expect from an SPC or hybrid. Good sub bass extension and definition though it won’t add note weight.

Interestingly, I noticed a peculiar lack of depth on open listen. I left it on the burner for about 10 hours and it opened right up. Perfectly aware of the different schools of thought on it, but this has got to be one of the more significant burn-ins I’ve actually heard.

Really nice colours but the fabric sheath (if it can be called fabric) is stiff, scratchy and microphonic.

DragonScale 2

IMG_4792.jpeg

(Not one of the new prototypes; but it stands tall among them)

Silver-palladium alloy. Very good upper treble and imaging, wide sound field. More bass pressure than something like SSOrpheus. Less mid-forward and less W-shaped than the likes of AuKing Ultra.

Different price bracket, but if I were to compare this with the much talked about Xinhs silver-palladium cable, the Xinhs is brighter and snappier. In comparison, the DragonScale 2 is much more resolving, brings more natural tonality and decay, has much more bass and is simply the more well-rounded product.

I’ve never heard OG DragonScale so can’t compare them.

AuKing Ultra

IMG_4801.jpeg

Gold plated copper. The vocal specialist of the lot, but also one with very nice treble extension and deep, textured bass. Fab mids for voices. Got my first goosebumps with Himalaya on this pairing. Treble here is more prominent and shimmery than SSOrpheus, but not sharp or fatiguing.

The most substantial bass of the three, though DragonScale 2 is not far behind.

It has an expansiveness in its staging that I associate with good copper. Conveys a clear sense of depth, layering and separation.

Compared to Eletech Raphael, AuKing Ultra is lusher, darker. Raph may be more resolving, or at least more overtly so because of its upper mid/lower treble tilt. ISN GC4 is a bit similar to AuKing Ultra in its darker colouration but AuKing Ultra has better (and more) bass.

Interestingly, Raph has relatively shallow depth compared to GC4 and AuKing Ultra.

Thiccc cable with a very soft fabric sheath and no microphonics of note once the music is playing. My favourite cable of the lot.

During my recent trip to the SG for Canjam, I explored a lot of HiFi audio gear. This one week trip, I did not visit any tourist place in SG, but all the different audio stores and CanJam. I found many IEMs that were on my radar since a long time, but i never got a chance to audition them. One such IEM is this one, the Nostalgia Audio Camelot. I tried this at Zeppelin with the help of Jordan Oki.

Man this IEM instantly made me fall in love with it, talk about excellently balanced sound throughout the frequency band. Superb transient speed, snappy(quick) bass response, and lovely resolution throughout the frequency band. This is an IEM I fell in love within an instant and Now after coming back to my country i miss the most lol. Maybe some day will get one and add to my ever growing collection haha.

NiceHCK Musou 7N Flagship, Silver Palladium Plated OCC

Picked this cable up for about $35, during the last big "sale". Putting aside [edit] as it’s literally and figuratively in my head [edit] that I have a perceived increase in width and height, to the 7hz Legato, I'll instead address the optics and pliability.
The cable is just this side of gorgeous.
Unlike a good deal of the recent cables, that are suffering from a degree of stiffness, the Musou is soft and pliable.
The built in hooks/loops are not aggressive, thankfully.

If the 2-pin termination were flush mount, the Musou would be near perfect

Wow! Nice! Enjoy!
As far as purity goes, that’s up there, though this chart has finite measurements of supposed purity, it is actually in real-life not so strict or uniform but an estimated purity scale. But I believe you about the stage differences. :) Is the bass attenuated?

NiceHCK Musou
Unfortunately. but only the central thin wire is used there, the outer shell in which there are conductors is not involved

I have the Cascara and love it I will say I had bass flex with many tips but once I paired with the Tangzu TangSanCai tips that went away I also changed the cable for the fiio pro gold, silver, copper cable which with the tips added a little more clarity to the bass which is big thick and marvelous. The mids are present and very natural timbre wise vocals sound superb. The treble is well extended and with zero sibilance.
I listen to predominantly classic rock and funk, the cascara excellent with this style of music.
Thanks for the response. I primarily listen to EDM. Any thoughts on that genre specifically?

The only things that remotely fit that on my library are Daft Punk and Massive attack which both sound Damn fine.

zat vs nio

nio is warm compared to zat.
zat has more intimate mids, they don't sound metallic or cheap either. nio takes the crown for it's extended details. nio also dominates with it's bass, subbass sounding clean and rumbly. however, when zat mates with 220 ohm adapter, it reaches that satisfaction like the nio does without distortion.

i like to keep my posts short so if you'd like to know more, go ahead and ask :)

i also tried the cascara, i was disappointed honestly. if i compared it to my edx lite, and gave my honest thoughts; i would probably be called out as just a shill. edx lite sounds much cleaner, the bass is better, and it doesn't have that odd mid veil like cascara does.
"Since I haven't heard anything in 500$ plus range (iems), I can only wonder, but that Trio is quite awesome indeed." (greymousetaxi). So you haven't tried anything out in the $500 plus range but are commenting about the Nio and Cascara. Don't worry, I won't call you a shill.
