The discovery thread!

No idea. I predict a near kilobuck price tag. If AFUL can price these at the retail price of Penon Turbo and AuR Aurora, and if these Cantor perform as I imagined, it would be exciting to me. Heck, even if it has exactly the same technical performance as P8 but with the tuning of Magic One, I would be happy to pay to replace my P8 as EDC. Early impressions from Canjam seem to put it in the same bracket with multi-kilobucks like Odin and Loki though. As you can see, I’m very eager for these.

If AFUL disappoint, they will get an earful from me.

Anyhow, the Tanchjim. Hopefully some brave Aussie would grab one so that I can borrow. Need to finish some reviews of my other Penon IEMs first. I can already foresee the pitchfolks :dt880smile:
Oh oh which PENON?

Looks like the price of the Noble XM-1 has already dropped by $100. Doesn't seem to have many early adopters yet. I was maybe going to go for it depending on impressions(of which there are almost none), but they are apparently a bit bright(and similar to MEST MK1), and I already have enough bright IEMs. That price drop makes it more tempting though.

Here's a discovery I accidentally made. Well, I bought this ($30)IEM on porpoise thinking it was the companion IEM for the Qudelix T71, which was supposed to be out by now. By the time I realized my mistake it had already been shipped. It has two 8mm DDs with a two-way digital crossover. You can imagine my surprise when I pulled it out of the box and saw that connector. It has a 3.5 AND a 2.5, which plug in at the same time. Weird as heck. Made for the 5K but works great with the T71.

It's very v-shaped with huge bass. And it is actually very, very spacious for the price with great depth and height, although average-ish width. I have no idea how much that has to do with the crossover or dual-plug setup, if it has anything to do with it at all. I don't expect to use it often, and haven't tried it for gaming yet, but it's certainly different. Apparently, they are almost done producing the T71 IEM which will have a faceplate with carbon fibre, ala MEST MK1.
Kinda in the style of the dual DD IEMs like the TTPod T1-E or the JVC FXT100-200 that were sorta popular about a decade ago?

Yes, exactly! It's funny you said that, because I literally almost wrote something to the effect of "these would've been a banger about 10 years ago" lol. I forgot all about TTPod, they had some real hype trains for a bit there.

Would be nice to get the same photo of simgot. Or any other iem.

Im still seeing the same u-shaped style, with same uppermids than the EA1000.

So, I dont get your point. Any iem measure different... on multiple reviewers method

Enjoy the SPOILER, I just made it for you. Mate

I get it. Still, I would say that the fundamental differences among the EA1000 graphs are much less than the HE10 graphs in my opinion. Your opinion may differ, not contesting that.

I owned a pair when they were popular. Lost them at work when I worked for Walmart. I decided not to replace them. The bass was very lean. biocellulose drivers.

Simgot EA1000 + JVC spiral dot OG tips + iBasso DX170 = Simply SUBLIME. Puts most everything I own or have heard at most price ranges ($5.00-$1,000) to shame!

Listening to Cecilie Strange - Blue album and the stand out is the transparency, space between instruments, timbre, and details. You can hear the skin of the percussion, the brush strokes, the click of the metal rims, the vibration of the drums and the breathes of the sax. Now there's IEM's that can pick this up, but not at the clarity. The volume of the details, even at low hearing volume. This is what separates the EA1000 from the Aure or OD200 or IE800 or RE800. That and the soundstage is engulfing and immersive.

But this synergy is with the DX170. It's not as expansive, transparent, or detailed on the Sony's or the Fiio. These play best with the DX170 and surprisingly enough, the Sansa Fuze.

If you own the EA1000, do yourself a favor and pick this album up, and here's the song Hymn To Papa that was such an aural experience for me.

It's a good album, need to try then on EA1000 😁

Lately my listening been mostly with Timsok TS-316, AüR Audio Ascension, Oriveti OH700VB and 634ears Miroak-II. Could leave the hobby now with these and be more than happy, of course I know that won't happen. Actually have a few models on the way now as we speak, it's a never ending story.

Great new metal release, been playing it trough with many IEMs the last 24h. Favorite IEM so far is with Neon Pro, my metal king 👑.

Great photos. I took a miss on the Quattro, happy with the Serial, thought about the ISN Neo 3....but was put off by all micro-drivers and a micro-planar (silly because I like the 6mm's in the Fan 2 and in the Penon 10th), then the Tansio Mirai 10th X appeared out of leftfield, totally blew away @Dsnuts, and took control of my button finger.....now the wait.

@dharmasteve,
Thank-you!

My Quattro review is taking days to do. Where it is so transparent that it shows (dramatically) the personality of every source and every cable used. The sound is bigger than the Serial and better timbre than the Penon Volt or ISN EST50. And while not perfect, the Quattro has some tricks that it does different than any IEM I have ever heard! Yet due to the 4 DDs is not as agile as some BA timbre drivers, but the Quattro has incredibly natural tone and a giant involving tone footprint.

Test cables......

Penon Totem
Penon ASOS
ISN GC4
ISN CS02
Penon Mix
Included cable
ISN Solar

........and while during my review only two cables were a no-go, but unfortunately you will have to wait for the review to find out which two!

graph (13).png

The tuning of this IEM is interesting in several ways:
  • It's not as shouty or fiery as the graph suggests. In fact, I did not hear any challenging shoutiness or harshness when listening to the poorly mastered track "Shivers" in the = album of Ed Sheeran. My explanation: the big upper mid is balanced against the bass and thick lower midrange, locking the volume at a level where the upper midrange does not get loud enough to be shouty. The treble is also roughly in-line with the upper midrange, so nothing stands out in a bad way.
  • The "mid-midrange" region is noticeably recessed. It creates a good illusion of distance, because all the midrange instruments and vocals take a step back. Still, I'm quite impressed by how "balanced" this recessed midrange was done. The midrange does not get burried behind treble or a mountain of bass. It just sits further back than usual. This tuning does not upset me like the strange way ZiiGaat tuned their Cinno.
  • The (mid)bass of this IEM is more potent than what I expected. The quality is merely okay.
  • The treble region is incorrect due to two factors:
    • Too much cut around 5-6kHz. This cut explains the lack of sibilance in Ed Sheeran's Shivers. But it creates a significant imbalance against the 8kHz, making the tonality of everything from hand claps to violin to chimes and hats completely off.
    • The timbre of the treble is kind of weird.

I suspect that everything up to 5kHz is handled by the DD, given how much the graph resembles that of a DD with minimal dampening (look at the "cat ears" around 2kHz and 4kHz). The BA jumps in for the rest of the spectrum. Perhaps there is no crossover.
