Akros compared the Aurora against 11 other similar IEMs.

TL;DW: Good IEM, but he doesn't think it's better than most top tier IEMs around its price range, and he's a big fan and an early adopter/influencer of AÜR's IEMs.

He has been in conflict and argument with AüR Audio for soon a half year, or Nicholas from AüR.
So not a fan of AüR anymore, his videos I trust very much still. I watch all of his videos, also this one.

I was looking forward to it, as I would like to get his opinion about Aurora. Also said it to him some days before.

He got the Aurora in the house two days before. Always impress how he can evaluate so fast, very short time for full review.
I use many hours just comparing 1 IEM to another, but that is me. And I need to use it for a long time to learn it.
But Tony can be more trained than me to evaluate faster, and we all have different opinions and values.

Don't agree with his assessment, but that is his opinion. Where I got lost the most was about failing to play difficult music, this is where Aurora excels. Having clarity in even the most busy passages, showing every thing clear and detailed. No music to fast or slow...

Just my two cents, I don't get anything saying this. But admit the Aurora is my current favourite IEM, I would even take over the Z1R.

But the big truth is that there is very many good brands and products these days, be it AüR, Dunu, Penon and so on. Plenty to choose from.

He also made a video after he got the Aurora in his house at Wednesday I belive, even how good you are no good review can be done in that short time. I use many hours just comparing 1 IEM to another, but that is me.
Certain reviewers somehow review IEMs the same day they get them. 🤷‍♂️

He got shipped the Aurora by accident, from a tour member who did not know he was not supposed to get it.
Not sure how you know this, but he wasn't supposed to get it?

Is he blacklisted by Aur or something? Sounds like Aur's the ones who may be biased.

But it's outside what I know, I watch it on the side-line. And just hear some bits and pieces.
I know that AüR been concerned of his forward actions, much can be done to a company reputation.

Tony has done very much for AüR, no denying that.
Been in closed AüR group together with Akros and other owners, go back 1 year ago and almost no one knew who they were.

I still want to stay passive in this discussion, I get some more info inside about the arguments . But I don't think its right to say things online.
I like both Akros and AüR, nothing changed there.

Not blacklist, the owner didn't want to. But it's outside what I know, I watch it on the side-line. And just hear some bits and pieces.

I don't watch all of his videos (he rambles a bit too much and he still didn't get a good mic), but I haven't heard him bad mouth Aur and their IEMs.

He's one of the only, if not the only YouTube reviewer who has promoted, praised, and done reviews for Aur's products. He might have singled handedly done more to market Aur than Aur themselves. They should be thankful for what he's done for them, not get into conflict and ban him from getting tour units. Pretty petty of the owner to do that imo.

Seriously, too much drama for some eartoys 😑

I’ll just rate IEMs against benchmarks. Better than that (famous) IEM on that aspect? Get its score. Those benchmark IEMs keep the rating somewhat consistent, regardless how happy or angry I am about an IEM or its retailer.

But the rating is converging to 4/5 nowadays. If an item is not an outright failure, it’s likely a good IEM. Just a few years ago, there were not so many good options at around $200 to $500. I remember 1DD+2BA for A$200 was an amazing deal back, and it didn’t sound good.

Letshoer DZ4

Been giving them two days burn in and some use also, first impression some days ago was lukewarm.
Reminded me very much of the Tangzu Wan Er, DZ4 is vocal centric and on the brighter side.
Not going to do a full review here, maybe more of a comparison and impression. Been thinking that the Wan Er needs to join, also EA500 and last my SiE.
All single DDs against the DZ4with 3 DD and 1 PR.

Since you mentioned same day :beerchug: I always test something first day, maybe say to friends or online a few words then stay silent.
Good to let both hype or pre disappointed go away. Here it was lots of drama around the Passive Radiator being implemented wrongly.

Audio enthusiast soap operas might be a good promotional ad for the exposure of a product.

i really dig the looks of the Freedom, i was not expecting them to look such beautiful. Cable build is also solid. Sound wise they sound good as well, nothing exceptional or standing out, but they have a captivating sound that do everything right to be in daily routine.

Speaking of the devil... Here are my new arrival units.

Nice, got both those on the way also. CVJ has good sound for the money, if price I heard was correct the Freedom will be very competive.
Not market breaking sound, but at a good level.

Not sure if I am allowed to say, since its HifiGo that is seller this time. They can charge more than what was discussed with CVJ.

You know I don’t consider price in my review and rating :dt880smile:

Just playing devil's advocate, should price not be a factor in rating gear?

Let's take an exaggerated example for discussion:
- IEM A scores 4/5 based on technical performance, but costs $300 USD.
- IEM B has exactly the same technical performance as IEM A, but IEM B costs $100 USD.

Is it fair to grade both 4/5? Shouldn't the more expensive IEM be rated down, or at least the less expensive one be given more credit? If both are graded 4/5, where does the aspect of price-to-performance ratio come in? Should we be a bit more lenient with very cheap gear, and stricter with more expensive products, or treat all equally and strictly?

I didn't open up this one yet. I need to finish some of backlogs first.
