"Crinacle" tuning

I usually prefer a little bit more of extension on bass, but have to say, Variations deserve all the fans it has.
Also, the drivers inside Moondrop iems could be eq'd nicely to give them a little bit of punch on rest bass frequencies if u want to.

PD. Im not sharur btw

I don’t get the hate Crinacle get for his tuning, especially this IEM. The Harman target and Moondrop VDSF target are the shouty, thin ones. Crinacle’s target is always less shouty and easier on the ears, yet sounding correct.

For instance, this IEM is a good example of IEF target: https://nk-tran.com/iegems-graphtool/?share=IEF_IEM_Target,Orchestra_Lite

The orchestra lite is anything but shouty and thin.

All the target provides is the “rail guard” for the critical 250Hz to around 5kHz region. The rest can be and should be customised. In my experience, messing with midrange and lower treble tends to make the sound wonky and hard to fix. (Think of the 1.25kHz honk of FH3 that also messes up the soundstage shape)

Edit: still think that the hype before the release of this project red is counter productive (“make many IEMs obsolete”). Not if it does not have technical chop above the price tag.

Another thin gutless wonder with scooped mid-bass. That's a red mark, PASS!

(not the biggest Crin tuning fan)
If you are not fond of Salnotes Zero or other Crin Tuning, Red will not be interesting for you

Meteor has landed.

Outstanding woofers, excellent treble extension for nuances and air. Good sense of depth. Very comfortable. Excellent stock cable.

The tuning is kinda odd though. I will need plenty brain burn in for this.

Dark? Big bass and less sparkles on top?

They are in my wishlist.
I look forward to your judgment.

How can I explain …

Think of usual budget/mid-fi IEMs. They tend to have 5kHz boost to artificially sharpen the edge of musical notes, creating the illusion of resolution. However, when you pay careful attention, you realise the “resolution” is only skin-deep, because these IEMs do not have good treble extension. Nuances and details are just not there.

These Meteor is opposite. They have a cut at 5kHz, making note attacks dull, creating the illusion that they are not resolving. Yet when you pay attention, you would be surprised by the information they reveal because of their superb treble extension. That 5kHz cut makes the overall presentation kinda uncanny, until brain burn-in kicks it.

To me, the true resolution and imaging of these IEM are the best amongst all the mid-fi I tested recently. But I don’t fully recommend these IEMs. If the 5kHz cut is too odd to you, all other technical advantages are irrelevant.

Other than that, the bass is awesome. It’s physical, matching a decent DD (but not against outstanding implementations like Hidizs MS5 or Hiby Zeta). Because the bass is BA-based, it is “fast”. I’m surprised by the bass when listening to a track with rapid drum lines. Every kick is loud, yet they do not mush into each other.

Soundstage is not a sphere like Andromeda and of course not open like the U12t, so I’ll say it’s not “3D”. But the layering and imaging accuracy is high. Electronic music with instruments jumping around the soundstage is a treat with meteor.

Another Unboxing, could not understand anything and the auto translate wasn't that good.
But in his first impression he said something about the bass ~ the same and otherwise more clarity

Compare that driver versus, for example, the DUNU ZEN one (also showed by HiFri)

I'll pick that driver for 200€ (on the FALCON) that the Dark Magician.

NOTE. Ive got the ZEN PRO, and its the most impressive DD Ive ever heard. Probably is not the driver, is the acoustic chamber.

Gorgeous looking driver! Looks like it was custom made.

I've had the Zen Pro in my radar ever since it came out but the high price tag makes it hard to justify when 900 bucks is close to IER-M9 and Monarch MKII price and you know, the compulsion to buy cheaper IEMs is real.

I might get a Zen Pro during 11.11 because it'll be around 750 new.

My ideal endgame is solid bass performance, balanced tuning and enough resolving ability.

Zen Pro ticks all of these boxes.

Developed by DUNU.

About ZEN PROs, they got a nice long bass, with incredible texture, but its not the one the get sub-bass impact. Im a basshead, and the ZENs give me enough bass to feel satisfied.

You can get it with nice discounts from DUNU usually in sales. Recently it was priced at 599$ (I think)

Are there go-to impedance adapters that people recommend? I've wanted to try this out for a while but didn't want to buy some random crap and have useless adapters sitting around.
