Wow, looks like Amazon sold out of the M50's at the $105 price point. I'm sure they be getting more in rather quickly and I do believe they'll still allow you to purchase them at that price. Not a bad deal...

For those of you that have heard both the HIFI 580 or 780 and the M50's which do you prefer??

The 780's I love but I just can't buy into the hype of the M50 so if you've heard both and like one over the other lets hear it.

That $290 Electronics Expo display model isn't looking too bad either. (Edit: Gone)

It's an amazing deal considering they go for $150 usually.

Do you own them or ever listen to them?? I almost feel like I have to own them or at least hear them just to be a member of Head-FI :)

The M50s? They're a solid headphone. For $80, I'd rather take a Jaycar Pro Monitor or a JVC HA-S500, but the M50 is a solid all-arounder that does everything fairly well and doesn't screw anything up bad. They're built very solidly, have punchy, but unobtrusive bass, decent (but a bit too recessed) mids, sparkly, but slightly sibilant treble, and a "meh" soundstage. Definitely could do worse at $82, but at $150, there are better options.

Edit: I've owned them for about a year, to answer your question, Demon.

Ok, so what about the Pro700mk2 vs the m50's Amazon has a used pair for $118 and new for $167. I'm looking used to save a few dollars but is the price difference worth it. I've heard that the 700mk2 are straight up bass MONSTERS and will shake your skull and I do love bass but I still like quality bass too. Basically I need a portable over ear can that will travel with me that doesn't need some sort of amp and thats under the $120 mark. Any suggestion or sale information would be helpful

Yah for $150 they were never an option. Thank you for the break down. From the new or budding Hi-fiers out there they seem to be the favorite of first timers or people coming from $30 Skull crushers so of course to them they(m50) are probably the best cans on the planet!! But from people that are in the know seem to all say exactly what you just said... They are solidly built with good quality sound, or the "jack of all trades master of none thing gets thrown around as well. For $82 I may take a flier on them. Worst case senario I send them back or sell them on eBay for the same price.

The Jaycar, are those the Fischer Audio copies that a lot of people seem to like?? Or Brainwavz HM5's?? They are super neutral right?? Head great great things about them but there aren't easy to come by here in the US
