i think the algorithm amazon employs is that it will set a "minimum" price, and start to gradually drop towards to that price, if someone buys in the meantime, it will either slow down the price drop or even to backwards. I have seen this behavior in quite a few instances. In some occasion, the price goes back up straightaway after I made the order.
