Although that is a great price, that's definitely not the cost to build. If you look at the cost to the resellers for headphones they are really close to about half the msrp. I believe the HD650 are a little lower close to $300. The actual cost to design, build, package and ship is under half of those cost at around $150.

Nooo, I mean, cost to source the parts yourself; not factory BoM

If I remember correctly, the headband is ~$80, pads are about $45, cable ~$25, drivers ~$120, and mesh grille ~$16. Not sure if I'm missing anything else..

VMinnovations HD650 refurbished is currently out of stock http://www.vminnovations.com/Product_14573/Sennheiser-HD650-Open-Air-Dynamic-Audiophile-Headphone-Refurbished-.html but I just got my pair and I'm very impressed. Not a scratch on them! The outer cardboard box isn't pretty but everything else is in stellar condition! If you're looking for a pair cheap, I'd refresh that page every day or so!

Wow... congrats!  I got a similar deal over at Crutchfield for the HD800s- $1100 refurbed.  Upon opening them, I swear that they've never been touched after being packaged.  The outer box did have *very* slight wear- as in a nicked corner.  I think another HFer said that these headphones were marked down because of this and nothing more.  It kind of makes you wonder if somewhere in some warehouse or distribution center some guy knocked over a pallet of headphones.

Yeah- I wouldn't worry about that.  For me if they work for about 5 songs, I'm good.  Just play them overnight and then run a signal sweep through them to make sure there are no strange buzzes or ringing noises.  Then enjoy!

They are definitely working fine, midrange and vocals are pushed forward, but none of the detail is missing, they are certainly awesome HP
Not as fast as HE-400 so lacks imaging a bit, it does not have big soundstage as HD-598, sound is centered on top of head more like planar cans, IMO they min are version of V sig.

Could you provide more information about this?  I did a bit of googling and couldn't find anything.

The Staple  store at Cyprus, Ca has 2 brand-new Sony MDR-ZX701IP for $39.50( Staple item #: 404412). I purchased one this afternoon. There is still one left. Any one interested may call 714-891-0288 and ask them to ship to you. Amazon still sells it for $149.

resellerratings says they are good, but I don't have any personal experience.
They sell for the same price (used like new) on ebay and amazon too.
