I think he meant currently. The 580 is out of production.

lol yeah, I know, but they do go up for sale in the FS section from time to time.

You can always get good deals on used products...Brand new out of the box though my 2 'big value' cans are the Koss Pro DJ100 and the HD598.

One closed, one open, and no 'upgrade' in sight until ~3x the price.

I would have to disagree. HD580 = HD600 for $100 USD. Now that's a sweet deal

Also, MEElectronics CC51P for $25 at Newegg.

So  a used 580 is better than a new 598?  Undeniable ?? :)

Getting off topic, but I think that the HD600 and HD650 are both upgrades over the HD598 at less than 2x the price. But they both require some kind of amp...

Those 3 are more...flavors to me. Though I will agree with proper amping they'll surpass the 598, but I'd consider the price of the amps in the headphone price as well.

I believe that the HD 600 and 650 will scale up much better than the HD 598.  However, this is a discussion that can go on and everyone has a reasonable and supportable position.  All three are excellent cans.

I very much like the DJ100 & family as well.  Just wish that it was slightly easier to power and that it came with a short cable and connector like the CAL! and HiFi 780.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000MVEC0Q/ref=dp_olp_used?ie=UTF8&condition=used

A used pair of Denon AH-D2000 for $195.49 (S+H included). Condition is acceptable however. The description reads,

"Please read. The screw on the left cup broke.Had to replace with a srew and nut to hold it. The cable has a spot where the shielding loose a little. The headphones play very well.Includes box."

Tempting. I probably won't bite though.

These just dropped to $187.49 (S+H included). Now I'm a bit suspicious :/

I'm pretty sure if you just wait a bit for one to pop up in the FS section, you'll be able to find one for the same price in much better condition. I just sold a pair of D2000 for $200 shipped, and they were pretty much in mint condition.
