Generally, If it's no longer in production, then expect prices to hit retail-above reatail(thanks to third party sellers); I've seen this happen with headphones plenty of times
 
That said, I personally wouldnt spend that much on a used D5000.

Most of the "deals" you post aren't really deals(they can be found for those prices most of the time) in my eyes. On the other hand, you're right about a deal being different for everyone.

My point was that it could be found around that price almost all the time(was around $400 a month ago).
 
You can go to this tracker, turn on 3rd party used, and set the date range to 3 months.

I have no disagreement--it would have been better to have bought three to six months ago.  What I posted is a good deal--relative to the market today.  What happened months in the past is not going to help someone shopping today--especially for a discontinued product.
