How do the 880's differ over the 770's? is it just like an equivalent open back?

No, the DT 990 is closer to an open back DT 770 if anything.  Both the DT 770 and DT 990 are V-shaped (boosted bass and treble, recessed mids) while the DT 880 is neutral.

I bought the 600's from someone I know because they got them and didn't know they needed to be amped. So they went the beats route and I got the 600's, I like the way they sound, but I perfer the warmer 650. 600's get very little head time. I perfer the 880 over the 600 I think they sound more natural and give a better presentation. That's just me though. But I agree with you on the treble, I don't have an issue with the 880's or t1's. Even on ss amps they sound really nice. I really enjoy the beyerdyamic sound though.

I like the 880's. I guess the only real problem with is that perhaps they sound a little too clean and solid with the precise seperation, and therefore maybe lack a little bit of the fun-factor. But only a little bit, certainly not to the extend that i would find them "clinical" sounding, they're still quite neutral. I had no fatigue with the highs myself. I guess the people who say they find the highs fatiguing happen to be very sensitive to that treble area or are used to very warm sounding headphones. And no headphone is perfect, so I think these are great headphones to have (same counts for the AKG 700 series) if you like a neutral headphone, and have maybe a warmer sounding headphone like the 600 or 650 to complement them, so you can switch between the sound signatures depending on your mood. :)

I now sold my 250 ohm version (that I bought a month ago) because I want to get me the 600 ohm version (gonna wait for a good deal on one of those). I didn't wanna risk buying the 600-ohm at first because I wasn't sure it was gonna be driven properly with my sound card, but the 250-ohm version already gets very loud very fast on the high gain setting so now I'm certain that it can.

raybone0566, so you own the HD 600s? What's the reason you prefer the 650 then (if you do)? I used to own both, and it was hard to decide which ones I like more, but the 650, while maybe a little too warm, I do tend to like more mainly because the 650 have a more raw and punchier sound, and also a wider soundstage, so they're more fun for listening. The 600 is more neutral but a little soft sounding, which I really notice in certain genres like electronic music. So I'm going to buy me the HD650 again soon, for music listening it's a better allrounder I think.

I have the 250 Ohm version and love the sound.....satisfied my need for higher impedance by going the T1 route and find them being used most of the time...I like the angled Tesla drivers.

I have the HD600 HPs as well, but listen to the beyer's most of the time primarily for the comfort, the Senn's just clamp a bit tight for my taste.  Sound wise they are quite similar IMHO.

Edit: Oops, didn't know he was out of the US, but it might still be cheaper than Massdrop.

It's only $199.99 on Focus Camera (NJ, & NY tax only) and you don't have to wait forever for it to ship.
If you order before 2 PM EST, it ships the same day.

I live in Europe, and I can get DT880-600s in several places for about 200 euros (new), but I'll probably wait for a good second hand deal (maybe like 140 or so). I prefer the HD 600 and 650 comfort myself, although the Beyers are comfy too. But I like the snugger fit of the Sennheisers (for me the clamp isn't too much), and their softer headband padding.

So I have a bit of situation I hope ya'll help with...I purchased DT880 600 Ohm Manufaktur through MassDrop, but not convinced it is the correct version. While the top of the box has "600 Ohm" checked, the bottom of the box indicated 250 Ohm and the headphone jack is not hot-stamped with "600" either (see pictures).

I have brought up the issue to MD and received the following reply...

Apologies everyone for the confusion. We just spoke with the vendor, and they confirmed for us that the units they shipped out are indeed the 600 Ohm versions. Below is their response:

"The ohm they mark on the top of the box is the actual ohm. All of Beyers boxes have that same UPC on the bottom like that usually and they put over a printed sticker depending which ohm it is. I am assuming since these are custom they just did not do it since there is not a registered UPC for this product since it is custom.

Same thing with the cable that usually shows the ohm since the custom models they can make in any ohm they do not put the ohm on the cable so they don’t have to keep all three cables in stock since the hardware is identical for the cable. The only thing different are the drivers in the headphones."

As of right now this appears to be a steaming pile of animal excrement.  I found FS threads of other DT880-600 Manufaktur clearly showing appropriate hot-stamping.  MD even has a current drop for regular DT880s with pictures of "600" hot stamping.  I find it hard to believe Beyer stamps at their desired convenience and/or their regular versions.  How would I then be able to tell different versions apart of I don't always keep them in the box (especially since MD also sold 250 Ohm version).

Therefore, I am trying to get some confirmation/consensus/opinion on this, so I can figure out how to proceed.  I have posted and email follow up questions and concerns (last couple posts in below link) without reply.

I can confirm with my 600 Ω that it has the 250 Ω box.

Thanks for the picture, so that part appears to not be entirely false...though lack of correct sticker still seems very un-German-like to me LOL  Any input jack stamping?

I do own DT990-250 (as well as DT1350), but I tossed that box a decade ago plus they are in a different state right now LOL

About a week ago, I posted here to say that I wasn't impressed with the DT800's sound.  I didn't find them fun to listen to.  Then last night, I listened to Radiohead's Kid A with them, I was blown away by the things I can hear with the DT800 that I didn't before.  I was about to go on here and post my impression again.  Then I decided to put on Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto.......my happy feelings changed again.....OMG I had to turn it off.

I think it had something to do with the recording but it totally messed up the fast songs.

Anyway.....just ranting.
