Jokes aside, yeah man, that seems like a good price if the seller is reputable. Given the holiday sales, I'd say finding a good deal from a reputable dealer should be pretty easy right now.

I did same exact thing. Felt the price was too good to pass up and Buydig/Focus camera are listed as authorized sellers on Beyerdynamic's site.

The last pair of Beyers I purchased were the legendary DT831 back in 2001. Still have them in pristine condition. Just replaced the pads a few times.

I also have the HD650 to compare the 880s to. I'm kind of looking for something between the HD650 and the AKG K702.

(I'm currently in a bit of an existential crisis with the HD650 and the K702. They are polar opposites at least to me and going from one to the other is hard on a daily basis!)

A reminder to myself and others that there doesn't seem to be a ceiling for what the DT880 is capable of when it's fed well.

Just left USB behind in favor of a unDAES-O Dante Ethernet interface between my iMac and Yggdrasil. Never, ever have I heard have I heard my DT880 sound this refined, truth of timbre, touch, and texture. I never would have called it "refined". It now sounds "electrostatic-ish with balls".

Congrats! You may find the balance seemingly brighter than the 650s, which I believe are slightly bass-heavy. Conversely, I believe you'll also find the timbre and articulation of instruments far better on the 880s. To each their own, as they are both fantastic cans.

Just dragged my DT880 out of its case after it was literally shelved for months, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. Everything I've said about it throughout this thread (and the site in general) remains true: it's an excellent headphone suitable for just about any genre of music. It's not the world removed from my HD 600, but it's definitely a different balance, and I still prefer the DT880's bass to that of the former.
 
Now I just have to track down a headband pad to replace the rapidly deteriorating pad on my set. I've spent the past hour scraping and washing most of the black goo off, but the surface is still tacky and nasty and in the short to medium term I still want to replace the pad. Curiously, the Premium series pad is available direct from Beyer (can't remember if this was always the case or not), but it's double the price of the Pro one, which I know can be used--it just needs to be tucked under the metal prong things on the headband. Both incur $15 shipping, which is exactly what the Pro pad costs. I feel like $30 is a bit steep to replace a part that's still functionally sound and merely cosmetically unappealing. Does anybody have experience with third party replacements? Is there any particular one anybody can recommend?

To be honest with the DT1990 if you've got the balanced pads on, then you've got an improved DT990, but if you put the analytical pads on then you've got an improved DT880.

I'd be surprised to see a DT1880 from Beyer given that they've now announced that they've completed their Pro range, but then again if it does appear I'll buy it anyway.

The DT 1990 with analytical pads is a lot like the T1 actually. The DT 1880 seems redundant considering the T1 and DT 1990 analytical pads. The Amiron seems to be more of a HD 650-esque Beyer from what I gather, I am planning on getting the Amiron though.

Not exactly sure how "Amiron" performs, but I bought the DT880 special chrome version as my 2nd pair of dt880 ohm just because of how much I like it. For this price range, no headphones can stand against this beast to date. Even comparing LCD-2 and HD800, the DT880 just sounds rediculously good.

I have a soft spot for those glowing, vac fluorescent displays. IMO they look even better on silver face equipment, but the overlap between the era of aluminum faceplates and the use of vacuum fluorescent displays was very small, so the combination is rare.
 
If you like what you're hearing from your DT880 hooked up to this receiver, then you've found exactly what this hobby should be all about. Enjoy your DT880, and enjoy the music!

 
 
You may like this ... I also have a SX-3600 fluoroscan receiver... it is pretty balls (imho)... not a power house at 35WPC but just very nice sounding (it is hooked up to NHT superzero's and NHT SW1 (passive sub)... really enjoy this.

I have the SX-3700 and i love it.

Yea i noticed the t90 LE + dt880 LE together for 4 bills on ebay which is pretty unbelievable (if one wasn't aiming for 600ohm variants)  considering the MSRP of the regular ones when they came out

Question:   Has anyone tried to put the supposedly deeper and harder (sounds amusing I know... sorry) ear pads from the Beyer T90's on to the DT880?
 
if so: do they fit (I assume they should??) and how did it sound / work out?

880/990 use 990v right? why do some complain 880 is not deep enough?
