@ Benny,
I'm flabbergasted. But well, if you found a new love, then may you be happy! :) Thanks for all your help and your presence. We'll miss you here mate

@ Ericp,
I laughed while reading your post ^^ It's exactly what should not happen, but it happened to you. Yet, I'm glad you found a solution to the problem ;)
I experienced the exact same thing (no filter: harsh sound, too much filter: muffled sound, and now a thin filter: better balance and clarity with no harshness), but at the moment, I'm not sure I'm gonna stick to it. Why? Well, because now, my SM3 sound like RE-252 with more bass (with visceral impact too). Is that a bad thing? Certainly not! Some might have been dreaming od such a thing^^ but I think I'd miss the in-house Earsonics sound signature. I'll do some more comparisons with/without filter (well, with home made filter actually), and then decide.
However, I'm very happy to have been able to try such a "mod" and see what a tiny bit of plastic can do to the sound! And I learned one more time how different dynamic phones and BA phones (with X-overs and multiple drivers) are.

@ Mark2410,
Glad to see you here! And as the others, I'm really looking forward to your impressions!

i checked the mod for the filter and found it intresting enough to try out.... but when i inserted the bobby pin there was no such filter in mine.... I have always found my SM3s foward sounding with extended treble almost on par with RE0s while others commented that the treble was a bit recessed... could this be the lack of a filter ( maybe earsonics added it to later versions? as i did not seem to be able to fish any such filter in mine out... btw i got mine quite a while ago after reading averagejoes review :-) ) anyway i noticed that RE0 had spare filters and decided to try a set out and i must say i am impressed... the mids seem to sound alot more balanced and the treble is still extended abit less harsh and i must say i while i enjoyed the house SM3 sound this is much more to my liking :-) (anyone else missing filters like my version ?) thanks photofan for helping me enjoy my SM3s even more

Missing filters? Blimey, thats not right.  They should be green - was there nothing at all in the sound tube?  Thats a mistake on Earsonic's part then - they shouldnt be sent out without filters....

You should be able to see them easily enough.

guess thats good then.. was always wondering why people were calling the SM3s treble shy when i found them quite detailed and sometimes a bit too much after extended listening... guess now i know why :-) (at least its not my ears being different from the norm) but the filters included in the RE0 really balance the phone out and i now appreciate them much more than the RE-zeros which i previously would have rated as the most balanced phone until today :-) where the SM3s have surpassed them by quite a margin

There's no way I'm messin' with my pair! I like their sound too much as is. But it's definitely very cool to hear these success stories of modding, and being able to punch up the treble somewhat without adding any harshness- if that's what the owner is after.

Oh, don't worry @ cn11 buddy. That was with the SM2. My curiosity is over, although I do like the new sound. But I will not be experimenting with the SM3.

You might break the nozzle or probably the housing would shatter in your hands if you did anything with it eric :P It's a pretty expensive earphone to be messing around with it

Well, I'm the most awkward person in the universe and I managed to remove the filters and put them back in fine. Even tried Ety filters in them, but didnt think that improved the sound....

They have great reviews and you're on the wagon which is enough for me to give em a shot! Thanks very much for the sensorcom tips! I'm enjoying mine immensely! You've done alot for the SM3 community, very much appreciated! Mark, welcome to the SM3 owners club and hope you enjoy your newly found pair as much as I enjoy mine!

I will post my opinion on the Sensorcom tips when I'm sober ... Which maybe a long time!
I kid, I kid!

Cheers!
