Sony NW-ZX300

does anyone know how to fix the latency when music video is played in DAC mode?

I'm surprised this hasn't been addressed yet considering there's already been an update. Maybe they do it on purpose because of the pha2a?

Listening with volume around 52, high gain, flac files, no equaliser (or other settings turned on), managed to scrape 15 hours.
I suppose that's fairly decent but was hoping for around 20.

High gain with vol at 50? What's the advantage of doing this? I'm assuming battery will last longer with gain off.

I presume the DAC is mainly used for audio only, according to Sony, that way you won't notice the delay with audio/video, someone will probably need to address this issue with sony.

High gain is said to have audio improvements over the low gain, more power driving it perhaps.

i just want to know what high gain increases.. voltage or current or both? I was always bad at applied electronics and physics in school.

Voltage. Current follows voltage, so the greater the voltage gain, the more current will be required to "sustain" the voltage. Because it's human that louder = better, it makes sense that the audio would sound better at a higher gain. There is no other benefit.

Post back on these High Gain battery tests - very interested to see the results.

Not strictly on topic but as a lot of you (seems the majority) own a pair of the N3BPs, has any of you bought the standard 3.5mm cable to use it with non balanced sources? What's the cost / part number?

One other question, any thoughts on the worth of the Sony MUC-M12SB1 - waste of money for any gains? Does the N3BP come with Sony MUC-M12NB1? I'm nearly certain, even vaguely remember reading it in this thread but can't seem to find it at the moment.

Has anyone heard Sennheiser HD650 vs HD660s on ZX300 balanced? Wondering how much better (if at all) the HD660s is driven than the HD650 so I can decide if I wanna upgrade or just get a new balanced cable for my 650.

I like the sound of my HD650 on SE but there's not enough volume. I've heard that the HD660s isn't actually that much easier to drive than the 650 despite being 150ohm compared to 300.

That's what I've been wondering, high gain now off and volume around 70. Be interesting to see how long the battery lasts. :fingers_crossed:
Assuming the actual listening volume is the same and you’re not simply listening twice as loud, the effect on the battery life will be very minimal, especially since this device is probably a class AB amp.

I've read here a number of times the zx300 (and the WM1 series too afaik) is a class D digital amp.

Now ask me what that means. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Little heat and improved battery life is all I remember reading about it, not what makes an amp belong to one class of architecture or another.

Well class D is a far cry from class A or class AB. It’s an entirely different architecture and one that indeed does vary its total consumed power fairly closely with output power (especially near its optimal output levels), so different volumes would affect battery life, but two different gain levels set to the same output volume are going to draw the same power no matter what.

My HD650 sounds fantastic on balanced with the ZX300 as a source. SE does not supply enough power to drive it. I strongly suggest you invest in a balanced cable.
