ZX2 is 15mW, WM1 is 60mW.

So the ZX300 is slightly less powerful than the WM1 series.

Inclusion of AptX HD seems like a waste and a bad idea in general - as it requires Qualcomm chips and paying licensing fee, and AptX HD is inferior to LDAC. I reckon some cost could've been saved for not including AptX HD.

699$ isnt affordable tho, it will be updated in atleast 1.5 years again so ....

The ZX100 will be 2 years old in October. The Sony update schedule is not really that fast.

I'm just considering whether to get this instead of the WM1A, I already have the ZX2, it seems like this will be my choice, much small and lighter, and cheaper too.

You didnt notice they fasten stuff up ? the A30 isnt even a year old and got a update already. They release the Sony XZ phone not even a year ago and released the XZs some months ago and now release the XZ1. They got alot faster

Well, "rather" means that it is more affordable than any other Sony alternatives that are slightly more powerful (WM1A+WM1Z).
All my concerns regarding Sony had been power until this moment. If it is portable enough and pulls out 50+50 mWs...I think
$699 is all right. Not cheap, but it is OK. Something worth collecting the money for at least.

A series are throw away models and can't be compared to the ZX and WM models which are currently VERY well received by the audiophile community and they'll be shooting themselves if they refresh too quick.

Phone is irrelevant - different department for starters and secondly phones always gets 2 updates per year either way as Japan has two major phone contract renewal rush in May (first paycheck for new graduates) and December (end of year bonus), Sony always refresh in time for those times in accordance to carrier demands. ZXs was released for September last year and this year ZX1 - all according to plan, no speed ups.
