I don't use them on the go, only at home or at the office, but I'll make the test. What kind of music do you usually listen to? What kind of tips are you using? I usually use them with jazz and classic and use a pair of Spiral Dots, smaller size than I have used with other IEMs.

I listen to everything, mainly rock and hiphop, iam using the sonys tips that came with it, i will give spiral dots a try.

I switched from the Sony tips to Spin Fits and it tamed the highs a bit, making the treble more bearable for some songs.

I don't know but spinfits were never my cup of tea, i like spiral dots more but i will give them a try, may be even comply foams and just kill the highs once and for all :D

If you want to tame the highs, try wide bore tips, like Spiral dots.

i always felt the opposite :D

Hello! Long time lurker, first time head-fi poster here :)

Just want to share my recent experience with the EX1000, which I've owned for about 6 months now. I really love the detail, instrument separation and soundstage of these IEM's, but like other members have experienced, I too have struggled with the piercing/peaky highs with all my previous sources.

However I recently got the Fiio Q5S and using the stock AM3E amp module with the hardware bass boost on, it has tamed the sharp highs and brought an overall warmth to the sound signature, and they now sound (almost) perfect to my ears. To me they now sound similar to the EX800ST's but with the added detail of the EX1000's. I suppose this can be achieved simply with an EQ, but because I do most of my listening on the go through streaming (TIDAL Hi-Fi) from an iPhone, I find this the easiest option.

I also have the AM3D THX amp module, but unfortunately the EX1000's again sound too bright for me using that amp. It's a shame because my other IEM's sound fantastic out of the AM3D.

Yea man i went thru the same thing. Putting together 2 things that are amazing on paper doesn't always equate to a good pairing. Solve the sibilance issue and you have something amazing on your hands.

Also, anyone have any advice on eqing, although I see the harman settings above, they sound too bass heavy/ unnatural to me. Anyone have an eq setting to something similar to the er4 series?
You want neutrality out of the EX1000? Why not just fetch an 7550/ EX800ST?

If he thinks they sound to bass heavy he`s gonna hate the 7550/ EX800ST...

I just re-terminate my OEM cable to pentaconn 4.4mm, great improvement.

+1 on this. It doesn't have fancy braiding on it or whatever but if you already have a 7n ofc cable on your hands which is already hard to find, why put it to waste?

I've already re-terminate 3 pairs of the OEM cable, and one pair to 3.5mm TRRS. all costing about 16000 yen each.

What's the best option for getting a EX1000 cable with a 4.4mm connector? I don't want to modify my stock cable. I'm willing to pay up to $200 - and the less gaudy the better.

I'm very happy with the Arete MKIV from Null Audio

pay some extra and get a Japanese made EXK to MMCX adapter, so you can use all the ready made or custom made cables.
