You have to have four strands cables for balanced, whether it's 2.3, 3.5 or 4.4.

I think Sony is the only one with player to supports 3.5mm 4 pole, trrs, which is not true balanced, but separate grounding.

The EX1000 is magical... To my ears it outperforms the 7550 by a large margin. I don’t find it much brighter than the 7550, and it’s not as “mid-scentric”. Instead, it offers a noticeably larger and deeper soundstage, fanatic ability to retrieve details and just a balanced sound top to bottom. And unlike the 7550, it has that “special something”. Listening to it from my QP2R with a reterminated balanced EX1000SP cable, OMG

I'm tempted to buy a secondhand ear piece, left and right, for about USD 268, no cables just a pair of tip, quality is like new no scratches, what do you think, I have a ex600, ex800 and a ex1000 these will probably last me at least 10+ years.

My EXK-MMCX adapters came today. $103 for 2 pairs so it's not cheap but it's better than the crap cable that comes with the EX800ST.
Time to order the EX1000.

24(12copper/12green) totals per side. The cable is really thin and weak.
