Sony EX1000 Review and Impressions Thread (with comparisons to FX700, GR10 and e-Q5)

for those who found the exk's treble spike(s) too relentless, give the final labs type E eartips a go... i got hold of a set recently (got my better half the excellent but cheap final e3000s which came with the type Es) and it made the exk's peaks rather more agreeable. you do trade off some of its enhanced openness but it might be the one thing that makes the exk more compatible with lesser recordings.

incidentally, i was inspired by Dita and how they use their tip bores' diameter to tune the treble of their iems, and that the smaller the bore the "sweeter" its treble gets.

Ya I tried a few wide bore tips on the ex1000, yikes! Still need to try spinfits

personally, prefer final E over spinfits and stock hybrids or the newer sony triple comfort tips and perhaps counterintuitively, comply with wax guard smears the treble yet didn't attenuate it making the headstage less spacious and not as clean sounding. Spinfits makes deep insertion easier and the treble halfway between hybrid and final E

I'm quite happy with new triple comfort Sony tips, but could You post a picture of a tip, You're reffering to? I'm not familiar Final Labs products.

Before you get one, if you can, the resin one, doesn't last long, the thread does come loose if you twist too much, the last two photo is the result, but it isn't a bad thing, without the thread it does have a tight fit just by pushing it in.

The brass one has a tight fit, so I had to files the thread a little, but still can't get it to fit in the EX800, fits the EX600 as shown, and the EX1000 should be the same as the EX600.

Update that this adapter works on the EX1000

Just got the brass one, EXK-MMCX. (not the one in the picture) It's the more expensive one you get when selecting the 7n option, for CNY366.00 (US$56.00). This adapter fits the EX1000. The right side went in smoothly, the left side had to fiddle with it a bit, and was a little tighter, but went in OK. Am listening to the EXK through a Dita Truth cable, awesome interchangeable plug system, with a 4.4mm plug to the Sony WM1Z. Very nice.

Now that I know they fit, I will order an EXK-CM adapter, and that will allow me to use any of the cables I have, which are either MMCX or CM

CNY189.00 (USD29.00) ( Company name Gongsakura )
Got this one also, while a friend was helping me to order from TaoBao. DOES NOT FIT THE EX1000 !!!
These would not fit the EX1000, I tried a small amount of force, and stopped, as was afraid of damaging the EX1000 socket or collar. Might fit the EX800/600, as I believe they take a slightly wider (at the tip) plug. Don't know, though, as I do not have either to try.

Do you have a photo of it, I got mine from the same seller and only paid RMB 270 for the full brass one, at first got the resin one, but broke, the seller allowed be to pay the differences for the brass one, the brass one fits the EX1000 and EX600, whiles you don't see it, the EX800 is slightly smaller, thats why the adapter don't fit the EX800.

Hi All,
I would like to know how the EX 1000's work with mobile phone? Is connecting to amp a must? ( For example, earphones like SE 535 (535 maybe less so) , Dk 3001 sound pretty good with just the phone, but with good amping, they shine. (Esp Dk 3001)

Wanted to hear from existing users. Also. The cable is using custom connectors right?

They are alright with portable sources. You might have to push the volume somewhat compared to the DK-3001, but I don't think you need an AMP per sé. They sound quite consistent out of all my gear. (Single DD, hooray.)
Yes, the connectors are proprietary. Hard to get by and rather expensive, in case you are looking for cables. But the included cable is pretty good, in particular the one with the Japanese version.

Thank you so much. That was very helpful. I know that the ex1000 comes with lots of tips, but find people suggesting other tips. Are they 3mm or 5mm tips? I personally prefer spinfit tips (cp100 and cp800), and want to see whether additional tips need to be bought.

I just got the cp100 tonight and they work ok with the ex1000. As far as Amping goes, clean source is desired but they do sound fine out of my Samsung s7, better out of fiio x3i, better out of ifi micro black label. But, the phone isn't terrible by any means, I would still like the ex1000 out of phone alone rather than a easier to dr8ve iem.

So, which tips did you like the best so far?

To All,
Btw, because of proprietary connectors, has anyone being able to get a cable with mic for ex1000?

Unfortunately, since the cables are hard to find, this is going to be a problem, I'm afraid. Any links which I can look to buy from?

Regards,
Manu

Still the king

Man, I really do want a new cable for mine. The stock cable from the us version is fine but I feel like I'm going to ruin it at some point. You've probably already said in this thread, but where did you get that cable?
