Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread
Nov 22, 2016 at 11:16 PM Post #7,036 of 9,298
Hey guys, any idea whether Bottlehead is going to announce Black Friday deals? I've heard the Crack is a very good pairing with the HD700s. So I was thinking of purchasing one.
Any thoughts/alternatives?
Thanks.

Agree with @buke9, the BH Crack is great with the HD-700.  Also would go with his suggestion on the TS-5998 but you could get by with the cheaper Chatham branded ones.

Only Chatham manufactured the 5998. In the mid-50's Tung-Sol purchased Chatham, but the 5998 continued to be manufactured in the same factory. So in general, Chatham-branded tubes are earlier and the Tung-Sol are later, but again, they were all manufactured in the same factory.

Thanks for the reply, but I couldn't find the Chatham tubes. And Tung-Sol is around $200, almost the same cost as the amp itself!:p

None of them are 5998. These are all 6AS7. There is one Chatham and the rest were manufactured by RCA. Even the Sylvania is a rebranded RCA, as Sylvania never manufactured the 6AS7.

The following listing is for a 5998. Note the "domino plates".

Recently, the average price on eBay for a 5998 is around $125, so $100 isn't bad.

Good price hope you like them. Just checked your profile they will be the best out of the Lyr2 . Quite the collection of tubes I must say.

Thanks, traded and sold a bunch to get down to that list. Just plugged the cans in. $320 well spent. Whats the burn in on the HD 700? 200 hours or so or a bit less? Looks brand new for an open box item. I don`t have my Asgard 2 or HD 650 anymore, gave em to my kid.

I'd say the burn in is about 20... 30 minutes tops.

Yeah I didn't find a big change in them after some use. I've only burned in one headphone and it did make a big difference and that was the Ether-C. Burning in can't hurt but I don't think it would need to go 200 hr's overnight should loosen it up enough IMO.

I tend to think a little "settling" might occur the first time you fire them up, but that's really all. I've had mine for a while and I honestly do not believe they've changed at all.

The Crack with 5998 tube is awesome with the 700's. Don't know if they will have a sale but is worth it either way.

What's even better with the TS 5998 + HD-700 is a Woo WA3 (listened to them both, own the latter).

And Woo Audio *is* having a sale for the holidays. Check out their website.

I'm considering buying schiit JOTUNHEIM for my hd700.

Will it be a god paring?

If it is not pleas mention a good dac/amp combo or separate dac amp for 500$ or 600$ max.

Thanks all for this great thread.

Sorry for my bad English
