Hey guys, any idea whether Bottlehead is going to announce Black Friday deals? I've heard the Crack is a very good pairing with the HD700s. So I was thinking of purchasing one.
Any thoughts/alternatives?
Thanks.
Agree with @buke9, the BH Crack is great with the HD-700. Also would go with his suggestion on the TS-5998 but you could get by with the cheaper Chatham branded ones.

Only Chatham manufactured the 5998. In the mid-50's Tung-Sol purchased Chatham, but the 5998 continued to be manufactured in the same factory. So in general, Chatham-branded tubes are earlier and the Tung-Sol are later, but again, they were all manufactured in the same factory.

None of them are 5998. These are all 6AS7. There is one Chatham and the rest were manufactured by RCA. Even the Sylvania is a rebranded RCA, as Sylvania never manufactured the 6AS7.
The following listing is for a 5998. Note the "domino plates".
Thanks, traded and sold a bunch to get down to that list. Just plugged the cans in. $320 well spent. Whats the burn in on the HD 700? 200 hours or so or a bit less? Looks brand new for an open box item. I don`t have my Asgard 2 or HD 650 anymore, gave em to my kid.

Yeah I didn't find a big change in them after some use. I've only burned in one headphone and it did make a big difference and that was the Ether-C. Burning in can't hurt but I don't think it would need to go 200 hr's overnight should loosen it up enough IMO.

I tend to think a little "settling" might occur the first time you fire them up, but that's really all. I've had mine for a while and I honestly do not believe they've changed at all.
I had to put in Heerlen CCa in my Lite Dac 68 and Pinched Waist Heerlen in my amp otherwise the treble was a bit much with German tubes (which are my favorites). Will the treble dial down with more use? Less than 10 hours in.
