Just press towards passive mode hard until you hear sound.  I've noticed the switch can be touchy.

Ended up taking the batteries out and then reinserting them and now they work as I would expect. Flip the switch and it they still work. Must have been a fluke of some sort.

Damn these things are pretty awesome.

Yeah they do, however, they are not very sensitive, thus I feel like I need my iPod turned up too loud!  After hooking it up to my e11, you're right...much better in passive than powered.

I'm really enjoying the UE9000 in passive mode.  I am willing to go and say it's almost a Denon D7000, just not as refined, but it's close.

I have the D7000 and imo it sounds completely different from the UE6000...a lot more highs and the bass is different as well (I don't no how to describe it)

I found my 6000s at Best Buy.  They also had the 4000s, but NO 9000s.
