I just pulled the trigger on these headphones (PS1000s) and a Bryston BHA-1 this past week. Phenomenal. I just opened the phones and am breaking them. They sound great right out of the box!

Yes, indeed breaking them in. lol. Those of you who own these, did you find they changed when broken in and if so, how?

In my experience the PS1000s sound better, or should I say, even better after 200hrs.
The bass can sound a bit boomy initially but tightens with burn in.
Treble also was quite bright to begin with but settles very nicely while retaining its sparkle, just a little less energetic.
Vocals are more or less the same.

I just checked the specs of the BHAI-1 and it puts out 500mW into 32 ohms.
The EAR HP-4 puts 1000mW while the ECBA, 1500mW.
If you're loving the BHA-1 can you imagine what I'm experiencing :D

The Burson Soloist puts 2000mW and I'm going to get a loaner in a week.
It'll be interesting to see how this SS amp drives the PS1000s

I continue to be amazed how it took so long for folks to discover how good the PS-1000 is.  When I first got them, and for a long, long time after that, there was dead silence about them, except from a very, very few of us who raved about them.  I wonder what happened?

They are not "overpriced" nowadays, people actually listen to them now.

Cheers!

The HD800 are great headphones indeed, but not so much when compared to the PS-1000 in my opinion,

i'm with fury.  both complement each other.  yeah, i guess with everything so overpriced nowadays, dropping a grand and a half isn't what it used to be (sigh) ...  still, it was worth it!

SHHHHHHHH! Those HD800 people are insane! I'm afraid for you, we're going to have to put you in the PS1000 witness protection program.

I think beng a PS1000 appreciator is enough of an exile that a witness protection program is unnecessary.

I've had these for a year or two now and continue to be enamored of them. Alot of other headphones have been in competition for my listening in that time, including the LCD-2, Edition 8, T1, and HD 800. The T1 I still have and intend to keep. The HD 800 and Edition 8 I found to be exceptional, but just not for me. The LCD-2 is also gone.

That's about it... the PS1000's, PS500's and RS-1's... are simply "magical" - they sound more like "real, live music" than all others - with a properly matched set up!
