PS1000 Impressions Thread

Maybe it's a defective pair?

I think this says it all:

Quote:
  PS1000e VS HD800 VS RS1i

.....

Got the chance today to listen to the new PS1000e’s in an audiostore ....

Sorry, but in a noisy environment with music / recordings that you're not familiar with on gear you've never heard or have very little experience with. I have to admit I felt the same way with the PS1000/PS1000e until I got them home after a few days with my music, in my environment with my rig (GS-X Mk2 / Metrum Hex), then my attitude changed. That was a friends loaner...I then bought them a month later.

I thought the PS1000e’s would be exactly what i was looking for, and wanted them too be like the RS1i’s with g-cush (Amazing and exciting sound)

The PS-1000 (in my case) do not sound like the RS1i…IMO they compliment each other.
Just curious...if you use the RS1i's with (G) cushions, why would you want the PS-1000e to be like the RS1i's for $1,000.00 more?

Hope your next experience is better than your first!

Have somebody tried different PS1000e's and can tell me if there was a noticable difference between one and the other? I don't know if i should get the PS1000e i was auditioning in the store which i very much liked-but cost more- Or another new PS1000e (Not used) for less money but which i haven't heard.
Any info would help. Thanks

I've heard only one PS1000, But the difference from the PS1000e i've heard was so great that i must have gotten a PS1000 with a different sound than usual, And even the previous owner confirmed that.

My HD800 arrives today and my PS1000 (broken-in) should arrive Friday or Monday. I will be doing a PS1000 vs HD800 vs RS1i write up next week for comparison.

+1...all the best, Gustav

EDIT: crap, never mind...I just read the next couple posts and saw that you were just needing money for an upgrade.

At least my brother Stacker and I had our hearts in the right place lol

@Rasmus... Thanks for your comparison. I have almost all three of those... Only difference is that mine is the PS 1000 not the PS 1000e, which at least one reviewer (Macedonian Hero) finds (the -e) preferable and with better bass extension, but at least two others active on this thread say they prefer the PS1000.

I suspect that while the same amp can do well for both Grados, which have an input impedance of 32 ohms, the HD 800, with its 300 ohm input, would prefer a different amp, which would NOT do well for the Grados. Perhaps since (as I understand) you were hearing these at an audio dealer with the same amp, that amp was selected to showcase the HD 800 to the detriment of the Grados.

When I casually compared my PS 1000 to my HD 800, I used my Grado HPA-1 amp for the Grado andmy Sennheiser HDVD DAC / amp for my HD 800. In short, Grado had more presence and Sennheiser had better soundstage. Both seemed to have good bass. I didn't include my RS1i in the comparison.

So Rasmus says that the PS1000e's sound is 10 times as boring as the HD800's. I have to say, this is the first time that I have ever read the words Grado, and boring, in the same sentence, and not only that, but, 10 TIMES!, I don't know if I should laugh, or cry!.

Now, as you probably know, like you I am the proud owner of a nice pair of PS1000, so I'm curious to know what your opinion is, on that?.

I am passionately, unreasonably, unreservedly in love with my PS1000s.  Yes, I love my HD 800s, too, but that love is from my mind (details of how the HD 800 outshines other headphones on each of several objective measures).

But the love for the Grado PS1000s is from my heart!

Here is a more graphic rendition, thanks to deadmau5, of what I am trying to articulate:

You can say that the HD800 are like a smart, brilliant but cold hearted lady that you appreciate for her qualities, And the PS1000e are a warm, kind, Beautiful lady that you immediatly fall in love with.
And  Stacker45, I suggest you cry out of laughter!
