Comfies on RS2s?

Hi, I figured this would be the best place to make my first post.

So I decided to fix my pair of SR80s and while googling I stumbled upon this forum as well as the headwize grado mod post and decided to do something more than just simple recabling.

I had previously made a worklog on http://wellplayed.org/forum/off-topic/thread/headphone-pornsfw so I didn't feel like making another one here. Now that I started I simply cannot quit. I'm waiting for materials to continue my work :)

Nice neat job, and welcome to the forum. Good luck to your wallet :)

This thread was a great source of inspiration.
Grado SR60i
Vented, new grill, hand sewn leather handband cover, bowl pads, felt damping in chamber, mini jack in left phone for use with auxiliary cables (Griffin flat aux cable).
Also cannibalized a set of (terrible) skull candy earbuds for the cable from left to right (goes through the headband).

Does the one sided cable mod affect the balance of the headphones?

@JoshuaaT  - It's a relatively lightweight cable compared to the previous, and it's only 3ft, so I hardly notice it.

Thought I'd cross-post these here too,
Mods: Partially liberated drivers, Red-oak cups, Canare star-quad with Quables y-split, parachute cord covers, and a Neutrik cable. The back of the drivers are sticky-tacked and each has 2 holes vented. Might move up to 4 for a little more bass response, but I'm not sure yet. I'm loving them, but they're still a lot less refined than they could be, but all in all I don't think they're bad for being drill-press cups. I still suck at staining end grain, even after like 5 coats of gloss spray-poly, the endgrain is matte, and no matter how light a touch I used the stain stained darker.

Could someone please post instructions on how to mod Grado SR60 with a jack and single sided?
I would love to have this mod on my Grados where the wire has gone bad at the Y-joint.

Is there perhaps someone who would be able and willing to do this mod for me?
PM me!

If you know how to solder and take apart your headband.. it involves installing a female jack (you'll have to drill a hole in the casing to fit the jack opening nicely) in one earcup, then wiring one signal and the ground to the contact points on the driver. Then, you take two wires (soldered to the other signal and to the ground on the female jack), thread them through the headband and bring them into the other cup from the top, soldering them to the contact points on the other driver.

Sorry this doesn't come up to the same standard as my other photos above =P but hopefully this shows you the basic electronic layout of the mini jack socket mod.

GREEN - cable from left output (#1), AND GROUND (#2) to left earphone
BLUE - cable from right output (#3) AND GROUND (#2) to right earphone (not shown)
YELLOW - auxiliary cable inserted into socket

#1 - Coloured cable soldered here to left outpout for left earphone
#2 - GROUND (middle) Gold/yellow/copper coloured cable from BOTH left and right (green and blue highlighted) cables soldered here (this is only shown for the left phone)
#3 - Coloured cable soldered here to left output for right earphone

If you accidentally solder left and right the wrong way round, or the socket isn't clear about it, try it one way, then listen to the headphones on a track where you know clearly what comes out the left and right channel (old Beatles recording for example) and if it's wrong, just swap them.

Holy crap you look like you have a magic soldering iron with blue..things coming out of it. That was my first reaction, at least.

In regards to running the wire into one cup like that, I guess you wouldn't need to have a plug/jack there, though it does add convenience.  With the jack, though, since you are adding more "stuff" into what used to be open space behind the driver would this have an impact on the sound?  I assume it will, but it might not be enough of an impact to be heard.

Anyone able to tell a difference between before/after, or even right/left with a jack in one ear?
