does anyone know of anyone on head-fi who i could contact about making me some sr-80 woody bowls and how much it would cost?

Yeah, either Bilavideo or Bigrock2150.  Bill (Bilavideo) will make some pretty straight-forward cups that will appear more like the originals, but slightly deeper.  Bigrock2150 will turn-out some mind-blowing cups for your Grados.  I'm sure Bigrock2150's prices will be a bit more than Bilavideo.  However, they are essentially two different products (sort of like comparing apples to oranges).

I agree. Bigrock's price will be higher because of the quality and design; it looks quite top notch. If you only care about function and less about appearance then Bill's cups should suffice. Send them a PM

try this method.

1. find cheap plastic folders that are thin and pliable.
2. measure the height of the pad when its lying flat on the tape.
3. cut out 2 strips out of the plastic folder ( height of the pad = width of the strip).
4. use double sided tape and stick it on the strip of plastic.
5. paste the plastic around the pad.

Voila! better bass response and much less sound leakage. works better than tape mod. this mod works best with bowls and 414 pads.

And schwallman I like the 2nd set too =DD

I just decided to join the forum after several hours of browsing through everyone's mods.  It's simply amazing how well everyone has transformed their headphones!  I haven't done much to mine, as I haven't got the money at the moment.  However, what I have done is:
1. I punched four holes in the lining around the driver.  I noticed a bit of a bass boost
2. I put blue tack on the driver magnet and on the backside of the plastic circle.  I can't say I noticed anything.
3. I did the quarter mod on my comfies.  I again can't say I noticed anything.

I really want to get some wooden cups for them, but I don't have the tools to make my own and they're expensive. :frowning2:
I also think I'm going to replace the blue tack with dynamat or felt at some point.
I will eventually install an aluminum mesh where the plastic mesh is.
The Sennheiser 414 pads look awesome, so I think I'll have to get some (only about $10).
I want to reband my headphones because the vinyl+metal isn't exactly comfortable.

Oh, by the way, I have some Grado SR80is.  I just bought them either earlier this year or late last year.  It was a really good purchase.

So, hello everyone!  I'm red sky, a former moderator of ZuneBoards, for anyone who's familiar.  I'm glad to be here.

  1. punched all then holes
  2. damped the driver with blu tack
  3. removed the plastic from the driver's back and front plastic grill and replaced it with a metal one
  4. replaced cups with jaben aluminium cups
  5. reworked the cable and refinish it with a VA lab plug
  6. "fake" jumbos, included in the cups combo
  7. all this thanks to the SR60 mod thread
