Yes, it came in three: an HP-50 Plain Vanilla with dual cable entry (obviously stereo) but looking like an albino HP-3; the HP-50S with single entry coiled cable and the posh brown headband (also stereo); and finally the perverse HP-50A, single entry coiled but wired mono.

Whew ok. That's Yamaha, Fostex, and The USSR covered for now. All headphones from all of those manufacturers should now have a page of some sort, mostly just headings. I still need help with the explanations of mechanics on the front page, years and company info on the company pages, and lots and lots of pictures.

Still not certain how to split up the rest, but I'm thinking the PMB driver derived, and HOK80 driver derived headphones should get their own sections, leaving the other section for all the weird crap like Leak 3000.

Wualta: If you could upload the scans of your YH-1000 service manual to the wiki that would be a big help. Don't worry about putting them on the page, I have a special way in mind for doing it.

All (I think) of the skeletal articles for isodynamic headphones are set up on the wiki now. The generic "isodynamic" article is still blank, not certain what the best way to set it up is yet. I'm shying away from any technical explanations of mechanics so far, but I might come back to it later if no one else does.

Serge44 continues to add depth to the USSR section of the wiki, he's added dates of birth and death for most of the russian isos.

Question: Is the Sansui ss-100 really similiar to the T50v2s, or is it identical? Perhaps it was a v2 all along!

Now the cornerstones are set and I can get back to work on the actual articles. I think I'll start with Yamaha since all the lines are relatively well documented.

GuyMe,
There are two graphics of tds 5m in "The USSR" but they are not correct because that headphones was very old. The frequency response of the new tds 5m (from the box):

You mean they were for the non-m version of the tds 5, or that the headphone was in a bad condition? Is this new graph from an unmodified version?

Do you have anymore frequency response charts to share? They're very interesting.

Not even close.

The SS-100 has a magnet structure similar to a T30. That being, slotted ferroceramic rather than an array of samarium cobalt sticks.

And it has a serpentine trace that is more similar to a T50v1 or v2 than to a T30, but the diaphragm is a different material than the T50.

It is, thus, a completely different driver. It's not a T30 driver or a T50 driver. It's an SS-100 driver, which is vaguely similar to both.

Keep in mind we've never seen a real, Fostex-labeled T50v2, much less heard one. However, the fact that the SS-100 has the same shaped sound that ericj's Maior has should tell you something. That's an overall similarity, not an identicality. Note that the enclosure of the SS-100 is very different from any Fostex or Fostex-looking 'phone.

GuyMe, did your NAD ever arrive?

Will do though I search mostly for the most esoteric ESP's these days.

Btw. Here is the auction with some nice pics of the v2. The headband and the logo are clear indicators that it is a v2.

man, i never find the good ortho auctions

anyone tried the Bohlender Graebener Neo3 yet?
im seriously tempted to buy a pair and mount them in a float frame, but if they turned out to be unsuitable for headphone use, it would be a lot of wasted money

Yea, I took a few during construction and yesterday while I was searching for the USB cord to my camera. The most recent pictures have pads and a headband and whatnot, but no cable 'cause I've used that elsewhere already.

Also, these enclosures were made with pretty much no previous wood working experience, a hack saw, a drill and a weird looking drill bit. These ain't no smeg-mods or nuthin'.

Also, for those who don't know what we're talking about here I was trying to make a horn design inside a headphone enclosure. This was an attempt to get lower, louder bass response which failed miserably. This was my initial sketch (what I was trying to replicate).

I put some decoy foam and felt just to show you where the damping would go. A larger quantity of the stuff sticking up would fall over that center hole. http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a5/...2/IMG_3687.jpg

Notice the felt damping in the bass duct.

And pretty much the final product...

Edit: Who else is with me in saying that here at Head-Fi I don't really meander much outside the ortho thread anymore? Could some one turn one of these wiki's into a wiki+forum? We've got so much going on it's sort of bursting from the single thread seams it... seems. A nice ortho-planar forum with a nice ortho-planar wiki attached could be fun I think.

Not a problem at all I can add a forum in few hours
biggrin.gif

But I do spend a lot of time on head-fi in various threads, so the forum mostly likly should serve only wiki related discussions.

Here you go: wiki forum

It turns out to be pretty infuriating, actually.
