Yeah but the annoying microphonic clicks from the stupid ear cup pivot pins will drive you insane. There was no choice but to build a quieter housing for them in my case.

This was also an annoying problem with my YH-1000 back in the day. I'd have to keep my head perfectly still, then they were glorious.

I am the only one who keeps missing out on YH-100?

It's the only ortho that I can't seem to find for a good price and I find all kind of strange stuff like YHD-1 and YHE-50A
biggrin.gif

Oh and don't answer that, it was a rhetorical question.

, to be fair there are 2 on the way and I plan to go all out in the damping for one and have a go at smeggyfying the other - if the re-housed version is a clear winner then there will be no hesitation to desecrate the sacred housing of the other. If however the tables are turned , the YH-100 will be returned to it's former palace and harmony shall be restored..dB

Ack, no! That settles it, you must send them to me, where they will be kept safe.

So, think you could stuff a pair of SFI drivers in the empty frame? It is a nice looking frame, IMO, so it would be cool if you could make some use of it. It may take custom baffles, but if you can hack a set of doughnuts...

Where the heck did you find not one, but two YH-100? I havnt even seen a mention of one for sale since I started looking, and I have been looking pretty hard.

I get just a hint of that from the left earcup of my HP-1, but I just have to clean out around the strut with a dry q-tip, and it goes away again for a few days. I probably should pop it open and try a more thorough cleaning, but I havnt gotten there yet. Ah well, at least your doughnuts (mmm, doughnuts) look absolutely stunning.

the credit is all Yogi's - he is the Euro Ninja. He snuffs them out in odd places and secures them before the word gets out. They will hopefully arrive on our shores soon enough and then I can do more than just listen to them. ( I had charge of Ludoo's for a while and I was mightily impressed with their latent capabilities )

They are heavy but the frame makes them pretty comfy. Ludoo's did not sound microphonic from my brief experiences with them but they were practically new.

Hmmm... The version I heard had only one elephant, not two.

How good do you rate the YH-1 and YH-2 once they are damped and recabled? Second question .... what wire is a good recommendation to recable your phones? I picked these up recently out of curiosity following dBel84s recommendation ....

Glad to see you pop up here, you need to see F2D's wiki , I will add GuyMe's wiki too for completeness. And leave the recable question for others to address..dB

ps - those headphones look to be in great condition

EDIT

I will say that I no longer listen to any of my dynamic headphones and have sold of all but the K501 ( which I prefer to the K701 ) . I know yogi will wish to have words later but in general I prefer listening to the ortho's above his GS1K's.

Thanks for the input Don. I will check out the links tomorrow. I need to hit the sack.

I am very interested in cabling opinions so any input is welcome.

well I have canare and mogami mini quad enroute , so lets hope that's the recommendation

This is the cable that Ludo has used and has had good results. Wualta on the other hand feels it will have little or any effect. I am interested in wider opinions too. I have tried silver plated copper on my HP50's and they suite my tastes, I was concerned the silver/copper may tip the upper mids which is why I deferred to the trusty pro-grade microphone cable everyone so dearly loves ..dB

Is this still part of the ortho blood sport training ortho sensei?

Heh, I have to admit, my orthos have usurped the Staxes of late.

Anyway, I just hit on a new way to make nice soft leather earpads. I cut a disc of vinyldamping sheet I stuck two concentric rings of thin foam weatherstrip to the damping pad leaving a space at the edge and center. I then laid discs of thin leather sheet over the top and pressed it into the sticky goo in the middle and then at the rim. Trim off the excess around the pad and stick to your phones.

You can make different widths and thicknesses with different foams. This is a first attempt so they look a little raggy in places but the theory worked.
