Me too, as soon as it's available.

We are getting greedy my friend. To those hi-end dap users, 256GB is like a day dream. :)

I am sure you will enjoy your 256GB CF ipod. Mine runs flawlessly without a single glitch so far, even with rockbox. The battery performance is awesome as well. These CF cards are just efficient.

Does anybody know if Rockbox will run more smoothly with a different allocation unit size when formatting an original iPod hdd (to exfat)?

I would suggest you change the HDD to a CF, and you will likely get rid of the issue you are having. To me CF mod is a no brainer with all the benefits it brings to the table.

Who wants to upgrade his iPod to 1TB storage capacity?

I would!  But I assume by your previous mention of mSATA's issues, this is a sarcastic post. I really wouldn't mind getting 1TB or 512GB in an iPod 5.5 though...

It's amazing that small size can hold 1TB.

But I guess I will settle down with a 512GB CF iPod. :)

1) You guys said CF was a near obsolete format; why go with it over SATA?

2) I scored an iPod Classic 5.5 :) What are the steps/products (besides Rockbox) to get this to a problem-free, excellent sounding, (near) maxed-out GB, music player?

Obsolete? I BELIEVE the CF's are the best friends of these 5g's. :) Honestly, yes and it's a gift. I mean it's power efficient, rockboxable, best sounding (better than micros) and trouble-free.

256GB CF is your best bid at this moment to max it out, and 512GB may be a reality in a few months.

As for getting the best sound out of these 5g's? Please read this post.

Thanks, DMinor.

Now I gotta sell this Crucial SSD and get me some Wellcore 256 action. What would you say the total for this iPod 5.5 transformation would be?

Yes return or sell that mSATA because of the issues reported by cmarti and the overheat experienced by myself (and others too). That thing can not be rockboxed anyway. I have written that off.

If you are interested in a Wellcore 256, PM cmarti or myself we will get you the contact so you can get a better price than sold at aliexpress.com.

Not sarcastic, I really wated it to work better than it did. I spent $189.00 just one the mSATA card and $24 on the mSATA to zif adapter!  But it was a fun project though.

Losing $200 on a project is not much fun:)

He can still sell that drive if he decides to. BTW, you can't measure having fun with a $$$ amount. :)

I have "wasted" quite a bit money collecting/modding these ipods and DIYing thing, but it's worth every penny with the fun I had. What I really consider losses are those overpriced amps and iem's I bought and then didn't like them and had to sell them for a big lo$$.

At what point would it be worth waiting to order the wellcore?  I'm aware Chinese New Year is approching and normally puts a spanner in the works as far as shipping goes.

Thanks
