Back to CIEMs - I checked-out the silicone CIEMs - am I right in thinking that Noble are unique in offering both Acrylic and Silicone models?

Ahh, last I checked Minerva (a couple of years ago) they were all about hearing aids and did the CIEMs as a silicone-only sideline.
 
Nice to see more options becoming available in the CIEM marketplace.
 
I think I recall that Starkey / M-Fidelity do acrylic shells and fill them with silicone, which, I supposed, may make them more robust and, perhaps, isolate 1 or 2 more dBs.   Then, of course, there are companies like Fitear, doing acrylic shells with full acrylic fill.
 
Some makers claim that silicone sound tubes (which is effectively what you tend to get when manufacturing a silicone shelled CIEM) yield a slightly more 'organic' sound than the plastic tubes used in acrylic-shelled CIEMs.
 
I wonder what JM's take is on this? John - what say you?

Minerva's still all about hearing aids. CIEMs are still a sideshow bob. I have no idea why they decided to do acrlyic.

I am not aware of the scientifics in IEMs / CIEMs but it makes sense to me if the sound that the drivers create can make tubes vibrate with a ressonance frequency. I guess that the silicone would be dampening it self and therefore may not affect the sound as much? Just a guess though..

Absorbtion and reflections qualities could be different between tube materials so I would not be surprised by  a different sound quality.

Different - certainly possible. Across the board *better* with silicone? I find that hard to believe. In fact my experience tells me the opposite, that acrylic models tend to sound a bit better. Probably not so much due to materials but the option to use vented drivers, as well as the more precise control over sound tube placement.

It would be difficult to say unless we could compare the exact same ciem in the two different material...like the 4C and 4S. I personally have only have only one silicone ciem and it is my best.
