New Shure SE215 - First Impressions

The Linum Bax cable is really nice and probably one of the thinnest cables you can get and it's very strong.

Linum Bax cables cost more than a new set of SE215.....not a great match...if you can afford Linum Bax cables you are not buying bottom of the range Shures. And while the manufacturer boasts of their pull strength it is irrelevant. IEM cables don't fail by snapping in half like frayed string or over cooked spaghetti, they fail at the joins to the earphones and at the jack, or because the cable outers perish or get damaged.

For a cable 120-160cm long you don't need anything special, just reasonable construction and materials. If a 160cm cable makes a difference to the sound with stock cable (either audible or measurable) then it signifies defective design/manufacture, or damage.

I have the Linum Bax and use it for my ciem's and I use it for my se215 and 315's. Even though there the bottom of there line up doesn't mean I wouldnt use a custom cable, I use it completely out of convenience shures cables are way to stiff. I use them from $100 to $1000 iem's. Somesone cheaper iem could be his favorite iem.

You can buy an identically thin and equally flexible cable for Shure SE series for US $15. I have two (with mic buttons for Android), one braided fabric covered, the other regular rubber/plastic outer. You can even get slightly cheaper ones if you don't want smartphone control or mic. Sonic difference of Shure 160cm cable vs any other non-defective 120/160cm cable of sufficient gauge and insulation? Zero. Number of laws of physics broken and audiophile alchemical magic spells cast? Another Zero. Longevity/durability.....too soon to say after just a few months. Total cost US $30 inc shipping.

And Linum Bax are not custom cables - they are not made to measure or customised in any way. They are just regular mass produced items, with each piece of the same model being identical to every other. Judging by their amazing marketing it's pretty safe to say that several items that are claimed to be mysteriously different (a "vocal" cable, a "music" cable, an "extended bandwidth"(!!) cable) are also identical to each other in everything except the price and the huge amount of horse waste you have to swallow to believe any of this stuff.

I never hear a difference in sound with cables I got 2 Bax cables just for form factor. They are mass produced the only ones made by hand right now are the balanced cables for now. I wouldn't use a balanced cable anyway unless I had to run long lengths of wire for my studio monitors.

I have not tried that cable. However, I have purchased other things from there before and in both cases they were DOA. In both cases they refused to give a refund and I had to go through a dispute in paypal. I had to ship it back to china at my cost with tracking, and wait for them to get it and finally refund me. I'm still waiting months later for my shipping costs to be refunded. I personally would never order from them again. I actually avoid buying direct from China period. Generally they sell D-grade stuff online, especially internationally. Also they tend to delete or not accept negative reviews of their products on their website. I have submitted a few and with the exception of one positive, none were posted.

So, what is the recommendation for someone with "strange" ear canal, that usually spits out common in-ear phones within 5 minutes? Shure Se215 or Sennheiser momentum?

I have no idea about the composition of your ear so my best suggestion would just be to buy full-sized headphones and forget about IEMs.

If you can spit with your ear then stop worrying about headphones and go see an ENT specialist. Or get a job at the circus.

Haha nice one.

But on a serious note, try getting custom IEMs. theyre more expensive but should do the trick.
