If the Shures are OK for the gaming then Shures it is. Are there any good stands for like $20-40 or should I just man up and make my own?
My computer is a bit loud with 2x200mm and 1x120mm and a lot more. I think the Shures are the way to go for me.

if your computer is as loud as you says take CLOSED cans

If you're gaming at your desk, there's a sennheiser clamp stand on amazon for about 12 bucks. It's on my list.

I also use the SRH440s, and I would recommend the SRH840 pad upgrade. Memory foam pads that are more comfortable, seal better, and give you a better bass result.

Thanks. I don't get how that clamp stand works but it sure looks good. I'll figure it out though, it's quite late where I'm at. Should be able to clear my brain out tomorrow morning.

Are they intuitive to replace? (i.e. remove, then slide on the new pads)

They're quite easy to replace. There's a small separation that a piece of the pleather slides into the hold them in place. Those are definitely the pads. You won't regret the purchase, they're a great set of cans to start with at a good price.

+1

That's definitely the way to go.
Right now I alternate between my 440s (with 840 pads) and the AD700s at home.
I prefer the sound of the 440s with music and a few games, but I use AD700s more often with FPS's
(and they are the most comfortable headphones I have ever used in my life!!!)

Good luck with your purchase and let us know your experiences on this very same thread!

Thanks.

I will definitely let you guys know. Are the 440's with 840 pads comfy too? Is the headband really THAT bad? I can always pad it with something if necessary.
The 440 has a good soundstage so I think I'll be happy as I can be. I love how they look though. The only planned 'mods' are Sharpie-ing the left/right labels in black for a sleeker look and possibly padding the headband more; save for replacing the pads with 840 pads. Thanks!

840 pads makes a whole lot of difference.
Not only in comfort but in sound also!
But you will be the judge once you get them!

P.S. I don't find the band uncomfortable at all.
