Wow, looks nice and reminds me of the EP-10 Plus!  Of course, I am sure sounds much different.

:D very similar stuff(dispite they sound different), beside mine's not got the BA drives inside of the plastic :P

talking of which how would you rate these hybrids all together from your EP10plus!,  LSX5, K3003 and UM's marline which all had a somewhat similar configuration of being BA for mids and treble, then uses a dynamic drive for its bass
(sorry man, i've not get to seen a direct comparison on these similar stuff , and im quite interested in them)

My ratings from the hybrids I have heard: LSX5 demo < K3003 < EP-10 Plus = TS842 < Merlin demo

Both the Merlin and Miracle demos were quite bad and not representative of the real thing.  While the EP-10 Plus and TS842 are =, they sound very different and the EP-10 Plus will be too veiled for many as the EP-10 Plus is a warmer, more detailed and spacious IE8 vs. the TF10 like sound of the TS842.

The Lear LCM-5 has been announced.  It is a 5 balanced armature driver CIEM in a 3-way, 3 sound tube configuration with a single low, 2 mid-range drivers, and 2 tweeters.

The sound was tuned to give a neutral sound, but there is an optional adapter cable ($90) that will change the sound to be like a studio monitor.

A new face plate will be available called True Texture (pictured below).

Pricing is HKD$6888 (about USD$890)

Seems like 5 drivers are where the magic's at these days.  Can't say my ears disagree.

How have the vinyl tips on your ES5 held up? Any yellowing? I'm getting a pair (not from Westone, but I can't quite say from who yet) with the option for vinyl tips, but I'm not sure if they're a good long-term option.

Isn't a studio monitor supposed to be neutral?

it depends on take on the sound Sony or ATH monitors are far from being neutral, yet they are very appreciated by many engineers

Personally I think that cable Lear is talking about is some kind of resistance like ER4 attenuator to allow use of those monitors with high impedance output sources.

They're relatively cheap, and thus popular in many studios, but sound engineers most often rely on speakers for mixing and post-processing.

Anyone have thoughts on the best custom IEM for female vocals? I listen to a lot of R&B, pop, and on occasion, soundtrack music.

My top contender right now are the Westone ES5s.

Get UM ;) Merlins are very good for fem voc. I listen to female vocals alot.

are there any expensive (i mean like $400+) monitor headphoens? besides new shure's of course. But you're right most of the mixing are done with sepakers however recordings rather with earphones/headphones

Joe, what are your opinions on custom reshells?
I want to get a decent IEM, preferably custom, in the near future as I'll be doing a lot of commuting on the train/bus starting September.

Since all my past experiences with IEM's have been fairly negative in terms of comfort, I wish to try a universal out first. If I like it I want to try customs out too, but since it's not my primary listening device I don't want to spend huge sums on it. As far as I know reshelling is cheaper than getting a budget custom, but I'd be willing to spend a maximum budget of $500 for the CIEM's (including tax and shipping).
How do you think reshelled universals (e.g . TF10) compare to customs in the aforementioned budget?

Thanks.
