Monoprice Monolith M1060 and M560 Planar Headphones

Seems like there are quite a few people looking for an M1060 replacement cable that doesn't cost an arm and a leg. My Shure HPASCA2 cable arrived recently, so I thought I'd share some impressions.

Shure HPASCA2 replacement for SRH1440 and 1840, ~$25

The cable is 6.9' long, which is pretty much ideal for me.
The mmcx connectors fit firmly and securely in the M1060
The connectors are color coded (yay)

Terminates with 1/8" threaded but does not come with 1/8 --> 1/4 adapter (my threaded AT and Beyer adapters work fine, though).

The cable itself has a rubbery, springy, slimy feel that's not great.
Sound: it's a cable. I cannot tell any difference between the Shure cable and the stock cable.

So, an "A" for functionality. A "C" for cable feel. Overall, a solid "B" -- does the job.

Thanks for sharing, I just ordered one.
I just received the Tennmak cable (4 ft, $17) which feels soft and nice, light and looks great. I have my amp next to my keyboard so I am finding short cables handy. I have also Shure SE215 IEM and this cable is a lot better than the stock one. connects well with M1060.

I ordered also Fidue A83 balanced cable from Penon Audio ( $59) to try it with my Onkyo DAP. Never used balanced cables before so we will see if it makes a difference.

I compared the M560 with sony xbr 500 earpads side by side with M1060 stock, and I prefer the M560, but only with the giant 3" thick earpads on them (and open mode only no wood closing), has more of a sound stage and fun sound signature than the m1060 does, M1060 has better imaging, but it just sounded a touch to boring to me.

I'd be interested in how the low end compares to the incomparable 1060 low end :) That's really what attracts me MOST to the 1060's, which are packed and ready to go back to MP. Thanks !!

The low end is lacking on M560 honestly.  BUT  meh its still really good, like its just a different experience with this level of planar.  m560 has bigger soundstage but m1060 has better imaging. lol headphones are annoying like that.

Does the Shure SE215 cable keep four separate wires all the way until the connector, or are the grounds joined in that middle connector piece?

So from what I have gathered the M1060's have a series of build quality issues, any words from the company on whether they will be addressed in the batch scheduled for the 17th of April?

Nope, just have to wait and see. I doubt they will make any changes to the connectors, MMCX is about the only thing that will fit into the space they have. They might change the wood or the yolk bearing point to fix the cracking, and I suspect they will add some glue to the headband mount points to make sure they stop failing. However, that's just a guess, we will just have to wait and see.

I would assume that the most they can do in the near term is try to enforce stricter QC on known problems in production. But the real question might be just how many M1060s will be available in the next batch? If they only produce 500 or so again, a goodly number will go to replacing defective headphones from the first batch.

It's just the same coloring as the expresso monk+.  Looks pretty good to me imo.
