Koss Portapro Thread

You all make me so curious I ordered a Porta Pro.

Looking for something to listen to at work.  I have various headphones and looking forward to them very much.  Does anyone have just one headphone?  Just one IEM?  Thought so.  If I don't like it I am sure my 11 year old daughter will take them.  Might need to order another - make note now.  Before they disappear!

Like a mountain, I wish there were only maybe 5 headphones and 5 IEM's.  Would make choosing so much easier.  Sampling variety is fun at this price point.  Not so much over $500.

Love my music during my hour commute to work, fortunately I have a decent stereo in the car.  At work it is a stress reliever.  At home, well, time to bring out the bad boy cans.

Thanks for all the comments, great thread.  In the end we love music and I am thankful for music.  It has changed my life for the better:)

Those ar great headphones. But not sure about using it in work or crowded public transport. They would be great for a walk or bicycle but would not wear them on a bus or in work near cooworkers

Well

At work I am sort of isolated.  Me and the copy machine.  I have tried some open cans and asked co-workers which are real understanding.  They will let me know and more often than not if I bring it up they want to try out my cans too. I have had about 6 kinds in here to play with lately.

guess it depends on how much you care about others hearing your music. i've used them on public transport, even planes. no problem, never a complaint...

heck. i even used them on stage when i forgot my stage in ear monitors a few times...

I love PortaPros. Awesome bang for the buck. Definitely my headphones of choice when on the go. I just wish they were a bit more durable because I have gone through MANY pairs in probably less than 10 years.

Well. That tells me you have at least one PP headband lying around. Treat yourself. Pick up a pair of KSC75's (they can be had for as little as 9.95 on sale) and they snap right in .  More even presentation than the PP, having said that, I keep both around just for variety.

Get a hard case. They're around ten bucks on Amazon. I haven't broken a pair since, and I use them on job sites all the time

I may be not as knowledgable about portapro as I thought, but it seems to me there's a lot of color options there Koss never offered, so I'd be wary of that if nothing else.

I've got the original, the anniversary and the white editions.

The white version even got a nice round case that fits the folded ball way better than the original vinyl bag, which was also included.

So I got these recently. Just wow.
Not only is the signature kinda warm and just pleasing with older, poorer recordings, I.e. stuff from the 90s on tape, but it's the sheer fact alone that these headphones even exist put me to ease. They're just charming and serve as more or less the pinnacle of those oldschool on ears you would have seen paired with a Walkman. Since I really love nostalgic 90s-00s stuff in the style of the PortaPro, I am breathless.

Here's an album of an ost I find to be cumulative of what these headphones are. A brilliant ambient electronic album that really go well with the Porta Pros, in my opinion. https://youtu.be/QliQ0livbeQ

This headphone is nothing short of beautiful and the world would be a better place if everyone had one.
I kinda want to throw all objectivity out of the window in regards to performance, just the sheer subjective, novelty and nostalgia value was enough to justify the buy for me. The fact that they perform extremely well in their price makes things all the sweeter. They're a piece of history, and what the Portapros are and what they want to be is nothing short of perfection.

If you are contemplating a purchase, please go ahead with it. You will not be dissapointed. These headphones are absolutely timeless and beautiful. In the right time, at the right mood and at the right place, they will not fail to lull you in bliss and bring you to tears.

Also, as a side note, I'm kinda weirded out why people care so much for the noise leakage for the headphone. People are somewhat spoiled with close backs and iems nowadays and personally I don't see the lack of isolation a significant obstacle. Sure, public transport maybe, but even then people have earphones that leak that are worse and other people don't mind too much, although that can kinda vary I guess. Not to mention I have some awareness when im walking around with them on.

I got these from Amazon for $35 just for the hell of it. Are you kidding me!? I am amazed at how this little flimsy thing sounds. That bass! It's a bit depressing because I've had headphones 4 or 5 times the price that didn't sound as good. It's a nice complement to more analytical phones, especially for smoothing the edges of off some of modern recordings.

The little engine that could of the headphone world.

yup, there's a reason I've had one set since about 2006...

it's been my standard by which many others have been compared for a long time.

if you're handy they can benefit surprisingly much from a cable swap.
