I kinda wish I still had my old porta pro for comparison, but fairly sure the red I bought is fake. Either way, I'll probably buy KSC75 and use the headband.

The mid-bass feels messy and imprecise. It could be the track I was listening woth however. Been too long since I used my old PP which is why I gifted them to a better home. Sub bass feels decent however.

My Portapro's came in today and just off initial impressions...I REALLY like the way they sound and feel on head.

My only complaint so far is that the adjustment clips don't stay in place. I have to put the headphones on my head then adjust them.

Those reds are lady killers. I doubt you bought a fake. Fakes are probably coming out with the original, not a limited edition colorway for a specific country.

I just bought a pair of Portapro's for $40 new, they're at the story eagerly waiting me.

However, they leak a lot of sound. Does anyone know if I should just buy a Sportapro ($40 too)), take out the KSC35 speakers and put them in a PE headband? Would they leak less sound then?

Just update - anyone found anything worth a listen over porta pro?
I love them but would like some isolation.

I seriously listened to many more expensive hedphones and porta pro still have the warm bassy sound unmatched by anything else. Especially with fiio e10k

It's more expensive ($200), but the Thinksound ON2 is maybe a possibility. The bass is great, isolation is for this size wonderful. It's very light weighted and portable, but the overall sound quality is much better than the porta pro. At least, for my ears......

The Beyer Torquemada (DT1350) is suberb and can be had these days for fairly cheap on the used market. Look for one with a bad channel for a real bargain and recable it. The cabling is problematic to say the least and a good tug on the stock one will kill a channel in no time. It also benefits from double entry recabling leaving the ports on the top of the cups for the original wires open.

Isolation is freakishly good for a small on ear once you get them seated properly. The downside is the tension on the headband can crack coconuts if you are not careful but a little stretching can fix that up.

Though not porta pro in my lineup, my ears know the 35s/75s sound and also like them very much. Also ur40 (which has flatback titanium coated drivers like 75s, but same shell of 35s). Anyway as much as I like them, i find the pro100 (which can go as low as like 30-40 U.S.) with the right pads, and some juice + EQ as a superior sound. That offers some isolation. A little more $99-$149 (this is for similar colored sound) I find to my ears the dt440 to provide that same type of feel off the Koss stuff but much better. the 440s seem to be ignored on the most part since they are old news, 'lower-tier' beyer, but i tell you that thing with a dragonfly will > porta pro. A bit shimmery and sharp on the highs for some but to me they provide a similar sparkle, with better midrange, and lower end. But still in a way to me (YMMV) it give me a cleaner Koss feel. They are lesser in numbers online, but still available. 990v pads, and a real winner if you are a fan of 75s/35s drivers.

DT1350 are too expensive even used and I am not interested in recabling. Besides, many report them to sound sibiling/harsh.

dj pro 100 on the other hand looks very interesting too me and price is only a little bit more than porta pro. How is bass? Which pads fit? hm5? cal?
440 also looks very interesting but I am not sure. I think this time around I would like something a bit more closed. Not sure

anyway, thanks for input guys!

Hm5s work but not the velour. In the pro100 threads i think the ideal pad mentioned was m50x pads. But please doublecheck and read those forums. I ended up using sz1k pads which were left over when i put some sheepskin hm5 on the sz1k, and they work fine.
They give a lot of details and bass with a bit of juice. Its quite nice for vocals. I prefer it to the 75s/35s anyway, and its closed.
This can gets quite a bit of hate, but if you read the threads on them, for its price, it really offers a lot. I call it my Tragically Hip/ Sarah McLachlan/ Arctic Monkeys can.

Odd, I am not sure which headphones you are recommending here.

Bought my portapros way back in 2006 and since then I've slowly and steadily climbed the headphone ladder.  I remember initially kin of liking them, but I kind of put them away for many years until just a few days ago.  I plugged them into my MacBook and was surprised at how crappy they sound!  Such muddy bass and inarticulate mids and highs.  Kind of reminds me of a bad car stereo with paper cone woofers.  These things may have been good like 10-20 years ago, but they just don't pass muster any more - even at their 50 dollar price point.  JMTC.
