Many thanks to BMF and all you guys for the detailed instructions and tips. I got my T50RP this week, and used materials I had at hand at my vacation home. Black modeling clay,

Will your clay not dry out and crumble creating debris in the cans ? I thought it is best to stick with non-hardening clay to avoid that problem. The cans are going to get minor shocks over time which will break loose dry pieces...

modeling clay is a type of non-hardening clay (well some are some aren't, some harden after 15 mins in the oven)

SeEnCreATive:
I used kids modelling clay, that I hope will not dry out. I will keep the left overs and monitor for drying. Thanks for the tip.

Some modeling clays melt ABS plastic.

Bake to dry clay is known to destroy the plastic cups and baffles.

Lock-Tite does the same thing.

The cable jack seems like a weak link... Static with slight movement. I would like to use my balanced Audeze cable which I brought along for this purpose.

ANY TIPS ON INSTALLING 4 PIN MINI XLR SOCKETS?

See also my updated post on using TRRS as an option. No melting plastic involved.

For mini XLR4, get a cheap soldering iron to puncture through the shell. Tip: touch the iron to the cup as it's slowly warming up so you can control the melting a bit better.

I've been busy....

My first--The Storm Trooper white

...which goes to a friend

And I made one for a friend and one for myself:

"Game of Death" yellow

Not as cool as the original, though

And the Gran Torino (or Classic Coca-Cola for those not familiar with the '70s)

I think there's a '70s theme here with the Fostex...

And they sound great!

Too much fun :)

Those look great! Is that textured red paint? What pads are those?

The "texture" is actually using spray paint and letting it mist on top of a previous coat. Repeat a couple of times.

The pads are Mr Speakers Alpha Pads. They are easy to put on with minimal pre-stretching, and sound great. I had to re-tune the mod though because they sound totally different from the veloured memory foam pads I had tried. For the sound and the ease of putting on, they are worth it IMO.

The leather band is also from Mr Speakers.

Just bought a pair of T50RPs, but to my ears they sounded a bit dull. Maybe it's the closed cups or the fact that I listen to open headphones a lot, so... do these headphones require burning in?

No, they do require modding to reach a great sound though. And definitely some different pads.

Is there a good thread on modding T50RPs?
