I have tried caulk on the ceiling and in the basement; heck, I have even tried caulk at the neighbors.  Call me old fashioned, but caulk in the ears... that sure is a new one to me.

Is that reversible?

well I have yet to try my paint on rubbers method.  have to see how it differs, but obviously we aren't going to do a direct comparison...

I need to put that can in a bag it is off gassing slowly I think into the place here.  Did I see a combination of newspaper and shopping bag skin protection in those pics you posted? Hard to see what was up it did look like a damn messy process. I assume it was done outside or do you still have 6 feet of snow. I know you only get 2 weeks worth of summer there then blammo snow again.
Did you scrape away the ridge where it joins up to the baffles, and when you said it melts back together when it touches does that cause serious issues with opening it? Don't think the Plasti-dip stuff I have will do that will have to test it though I guess.

I actually sprayed in the basement. The stuff doesn't smell that badly, and I simply put it into the bathroom overnight with the fan on and the smell was gone by morning.

It would have been a cleaner process if I actually disconnected the drivers first, but I just didn't want to bother with it.

And yep, I used a shopping bag and newspaper to mask the rest of the headphones while spraying since I did one cup at a time. I should have picked up some painter's tape to make things a little cleaner; oh well.

I did not scrape the ridges. I intentionally left the rubber there because I wanted it to seal. The stuff doesn't melt together per se, but it does stick to each other (especially after pressure). When attempting to open them up, I had to pry with fingernails to pull them apart just a bit, then stuck in a screwdriver to lever it open. I wound up with pretty messy hands since the rubber rubs off and gets under your nails.

Nope, haven't had any snow in a while now. It was an incredibly mild winter actually, and almost no snowfall overall. The springtime has been weird though, with pretty wild temperature variances over a week.

Oh ok  I think i'll hit up the MSDS on this stuff I have, maybe I'll do them outside , but this stuff has to be applied in stages so it dries properly.

Oh I saw some fancy layered foam in there in the back too

What effects did you notice using it in the regular way? I will try out some various stuff when mine arrive.

I just noticed Home hardware has the spray version, sigh, I didn't see it when I wasted my money on the large can.

A lady I know said you should try two caulks.  She said 1+1=3.

I'm not sure about all this new math...

So a lot of people are subscribed to this thread with immediate updates and getting childish phallic jokes is not really something conducive to this thread's general direction. specifically not when everyone is suddenly chiming in. Can we please get back on topic?

Jeez...sounds like you're in dire need of some caulk.

LOL. C'mon guys...

Since I started it, I will try to post something useful tonight. Maybe some measurements of caulk.

...But seriously, I've got some what I think may be NS T50RPs and I'll compare them with OS measurements.

It's not a big deal. Sort of rubbery or hollow feel. Tap the plastic cup and listen to the sound it makes. Then imagine that vibration, but a at a much lower level, permeating throughout while music is playing.

I'd be interested in a CSD plot of just a little caulk, since acoustically it's probably like throwing a hot dog down a hallway.

Not that much actually... like I said before, the most noticeable change in sound (in terms of frequency response) came from the spray, then mass loading. The acoustic foam/cotton/fuzzy dot mostly cleaned up the detail.
