You'll get used to tightening them properly as you remove and put on the cable. I don't have that problem anymore and I do it by hand. Plies would be the way if you don't plan on removing the cable though.

Owning the LCD-2 R1, R2 and the HE-500 I must admit that it is impossible to get fatigued by the HE-500. Simply impossible! YMMV, and my milage is from the 160D and the V200.

That doesn't mean that either of the LCD-2 will be fatiguing, but surely NOT the HE-500. HE-500 is also better comfort wise (aka scull pressure. The current pads are a sad story however...). Hands down.

FWIW, I don't mind the velour pads at all.

out of the HE line up (he6,he5,he5le,he-500) will have the best bass?  I am a bass junkie but I don't need a sub next to my head.  The he-500 sound to my liking but I know it was said that the he-5le are the "darkest" of all the HE line up.  Would that mean that it would have the most bass impact, punch and depth?

I feel the HE-6 has the best bass out of all of those.

I can only comment on the HE-500 and HE-6, but the 500 definitely have the more bass. I read the HE-300 sound a bit V-shaped, so those may rank bassier, but no comment from me. There's also an HE-4, FYI.
