**Hifiman HE-400 Impressions and Discussion Thread**

Yeah things are frustratingly quiet. I don't think they'll look too funky worn though.

True and wise words my friend, but they may still feel funky. I'm curious how they will fit with the thin metal band and plasticy bits near the temples. All I'm sure about is that they are lighter than the HE-400 so that's nice. I could get used to the look if they sound amazing. What matters most is sound.

In an effort not to stray too far, I found the link for the HE-400i thread...

^^ It's way too early IMO. Just wait for some impressions and reviews first. We don't know very much at all except the few sentences from Steve Guttenberg. It seems that it will be a departure from the he400 in terms of form and sound signature. For the better on both counts? No one knows yet.

Does Hifiman even have a headphone that doesn't sound amazing? Word on the grapevine say the HE-400i was designed with cutting costs in mind, yet it's still 100$ more than the HE-400, so I'm pretty confident it will be a decent improvement over the HE-400 sound-wise (or at least it should considering it's price point).

^^ What has my curiosity peaked is reduced weight (potential for better comfort) and the mention that the new models sound more like electrostatic hp's.

My 400 shipped yesterday. I made the decision to go with the current (for now) model because; 1) we really don't know when i will be released 2) we don't know how the sound quality will really be until enough peeps have a listen 3) cheaper material = better sound? With a fairly updated model, as the 400 is that concept is scary.

Well, we will see. The 400 will see small time use from me, as it is my office rig anyway.

It's bonkers to think these headphones are nearly half the weight of the LCD-X.

Matt you can't be the topic starter of every major thread on head-fi.

hahaha i know that in the age of smartphones & constant internet connection, people like realtime updates & all that, but the sheer amount of your posts are kinda burying all other discussion about the HE400. perhaps a new thread about your HE400 pad experimentation would be a good idea if you want to be throwing out minute-by-minute updates? :) hahah

Good Idea :)

Just my luck, no sooner have i ordered these phones ( awaiting custom clearance in UK since sunday ) then Hifiman go and unveil rhe 400i. My gagging for these has diminished now, and i feel disatisfied even before hearing them.  I recenly returned a pair AKG 702 Annies to purchase these instead. Wondering if i'm going to regret this.

You won't regret HE-400. Try getting Modulor's pads and a decent amplifier for best results though.
