I know I'm late to the party on this, but after a lengthy search I obtained my Sony XB90EX. As far as my preferences go, I felt the treble was a bit harsh compared to what I'm used to (Sony MH1C - very smooth and non fatiguing whatsoever). That said, I didn't buy the XB90EX for treble and using as an all rounder - I wanted it for rap, electronic music, dubstep, bass heavy stuff and they are just great. They are taking 12db subbass eq like a boss and don't bleed into the other frequencies. They maintain great separation and the qualities I enjoy in my other headphones. I am hearing details in these genres of music that I could never hear before on other systems (headphones, home setups, car stereos). These things are so fun.

Just received the IMR R1. Bass is absolutely bonkers. Listening to techno on these make you feel like you're standing in a middle of a club (listen to Dreadnaught by Hefty). I got these for 250$ B+ stock and I'm 100% sure I won't be able to find better quality earphones for that price

Are they heavy? Would they be able to fit small ears?

I had to sell the Atlas because it was too heavy for me and they would fall out when I walked.

Any reccomendations for high end that are suitable for daily use (train / walking etc).

Most likely driven by an hiby r6 / r6 pro (coming out soon) or iFi micro BL... Or sometimes Samsung s8+ if I'm feeling lazy.

Mostly listen to Dnb / hip hop / electronic stuff

Budget $1000~ USD.

Currently I'm using Sony wi-1000x and want more.. My th900's are just a hassle to take everywhere with me unfortunately

How well do the IMR R1 isolate? I'm guessing there are better options for more money? #edit, hmm sold out, wonder if there will be a new model

How do the Campfire Audio Atlas compare against the IMR R1?

cc:/ @Colors , @Jackpot77 , @Arkady Duntov , @subguy812 : your signature says that you have owned/demo'ed both the Atlas and the R1. What do you think?

I own both - for my money, the R1 comes close to the Atlas, but isn't quite there in comparison to the overall SQ and quality of the Atlas. It's more tunable, so it gives a more flexible set of sound signatures, but the Atlas wins out for me overall. It just sounds a little "bigger". Bass quantity is on a similar level for both from memory, though.

On holiday at the moment so the above is all from memory, but am working on a set of comparisons for some DD iems I have, so will be able to do an Atlas / R1 connotation in about a fortnight when I get back.

Sure one of the other guys mentioned cam chime in with some more useful comparisons in the meanwhile.

Imo, overall, the SQ of the Atlas is better. More well rounded, coherent and detailed.

However, the R1 is just more "fun" because it has so many fun filters to play with. The black, red and blue (from Icarus III) were my favourite filters and gave me a sound experience as equally pleasurable as the Atlas.

However, both are not very comfortable.

I agree with @Jackpot77 and @Colors. The R1 is quite tunable and maybe, for the price, a better deal. For detail, clarity, and coherence, I like the Atlas.

Neither of them fit me very well.

If you can accept the weight, the Roxanne II >>> the Atlas / IMR R1 in terms of bass extension and detail.

The Roxanne II, to me, is the best IEM I've heard for enjoyment of bass. Sounds live and very coherent. It sounds amazing with rock and very average with other genres.

The EX1000 is a worthy mention too in this thread.

CALLING ALL PRO's - I need your help! My Pioneer SE-CX8's just gave up and I need an equally ridiculous replacement. I love the bass on these and even the balance isn't too bad. I really didn't like the weight though and found 1hour was the max I could last.

So what can my replacement be, I don't use an AMP, but the price of the Pioneers is silly now. Any thoughts?

Thanks

research the Advanced Audio D3 Superbass! note that it requires much burn in before it sounds right, but then WHOMP,
it has bass like the ol Aurisonics....and good mids and highs also. they know what they are tuning at Advanced!!!
The Advanced D3 Superbass out of Mojo is a revelation! my favorite well recorded Electronic album Spira Mirajelus by Ajja never sounded so good.
Mist headphones, end even full living room sound systems can't handle the extensive tastey subbass these do and do it well so good they had me shaking in my seat out of the Mojo . Tremendous achievement!! And the creamy miss and god highs come through also well done Advanced!!
