The diy kits they have are techflex iirc. I got one when I had my previous pair of HD25 maybe six months ago. Very noisy and a major reason I got rid of the 'phones.

I was going to buy one of his very nice RaveMaster V2 cables but realised I had all the necessary stuff in my toolbox. I reckon once I buy a plug, copper cable and the camouflage paracord I want I'll be at maybe half the price of the V2.

I got my HD25 last week new and they definitely had/have a steel cable.
Damn stuff is tough but rings like a dented bell.

It feels unstable once you're used to the regular HD 25 setup. I prefer the spaceman rig :)

That's right now that you mention it about the covering.

You could send an email and ask for the same material that he uses on his custom cables.

Bummer about the steel. Anyway the price of factory cables is high, if you go 3rd party it's cheaper but I don't know if the wires fit in the headstrap grooves.

Does anyone recommend any DIY Sennheiser 2-pin connectors that suit the HD25? My biggest gripe is that I can find only for the HD6X0 series and while it fits fine the connector sticks out too much and it kinda kills the HD25 aesthetics imo.

The closest I could find is for the Fitear IEMs, but I'm not sure whether it fits the Sennheiser pin or not.

Yes.. We had similar issues finding nice connectors for them. I think we tried something similar to the ones in your picture, they did not fit as standard, we had to shave down the corners with a blade to make them fit.
In the past we used the cards hd600 ones and bent the top part with a heat gun so it did not rub on the headband but they still look a bit ungainy in the HD25.

Thank you, Jason! Your comments and explanations have been so helpful. I refer to your youtube videos often when working on my HD 25s :)

Finally. OE Sennheiser copper cored cable shortened and wrapped in camouflage 550 paracord.

Soundwise? Definitely less mechanical noise and possibly a tad more depth and texture as a consequence of using copper instead of steel.
I measured the steel cable. I don't remember the details, but the resistance and capacitance were huge. The resistance was on the order of 8-10 ohms IIRC. Dreadful!

Picked up a pair of these recently for £25

Decided to give them a bit of a refresh with new cable (stock 1.5m, I am tempted to get the Oyaide one in the future though), new earpads and new headband pads.

You replaced the cable but not the pads?!
