Hi,
The T70 is better than the T70p IMO. The "p" model has somewhat harsh treble, while the normal model has much smoother treble. They are both realy easy to drive, but I would still pick the 250Ohm model regardless.
The T70 is a lot more neutral and accurate than the DT990 is. I feel it easily bests the DT990 in all of those areas except for the soundstage. The DT990 soundstage is wider and much more spacial. Also the T70 has less bass, but it's of much higher quality.
You mentioned that T70 beats DT990 premium 600 ohm in all aspects except bass and soundstage.
In term of quantitative, how much does T70 fall short to DT990 in bass and soundstage?
If you have already discussed this topic, then let me know the post.
I own the DT990 Pro 250-Ohm and the T70 (250-Ohm), in general the T70 is better over all, the T70's clarity is a step up from the DT990.
But as a new Beyer T70 cost three 3X the price of the DT990 Pro 250-Ohm and 2X the price of the DT990 Premium 600-Ohm.
I can see a lot of people thinking the T70 is not worth twice the price of the DT990 Premium 600-Ohm.
I have a dilemma either to get T70 or DT990 Premium 600 Ohm.
Another question how does T70 comparing to AKG K550 in term of soundstage, separation and it's mids?

Hi,
The T70 has about 1/2 the bass that the DT990/600Ohm has. As far as soundstage the T70 sounds more closed in with less air, but the imaging is much better IMO.
So the DT770 Pro 250 ohm has a tighter clamp. Can that be loosened by stretching it over some books or something like that? Are the ear cups as deep as the 80 ohm version? My ears get irritated when they're squished by headphones, so some breathing room is important.
B&H Photo and Amazon both have the DT770 Pro 250 ohm for $169, so that's the version I've been looking at. I don't mind the coiled cable so much. I have a FiiO E9/E10/E11, so the 250 ohm impedance shouldn't be a problem, I hope...
I find the clamping force just fine with my DT770 Pro 250-Ohm.

I have to chime in on the DT990 32ohm.
I know Zombie has stated that the DT990/600 has the smoothest treble, but I'm inclined to disagree here. I do agree with you on mostly everything else, including a slightly smaller soundstage.
Not once has my pair of DT990/32 reached that harsh amount of treble that both pairs of DT990/600s I owned. In fact, I'd say the DT990/32 has a warmer, less 'revealing' but easier signature. Yes, the DT990/600 bests it in clarity, no doubt, but the DT990/32 sounds good off practically anything, doesn't sound harsh or thin unamped (tested it with various unamped sources), and most importantly, doesn't grate my ears the way the 600ohms could.
I prefer it over the DT990 Pros, as it still has a good amount of bass, but not as overwhelming as the DT990 pros, and more body to the bass than the DT990/600. The 600ohm's bass is definitely better controlled and tighter, which I think is part of the reason why the treble sticks out more for me.
I think while the DT990/32 isn't as technically perfected as the DT990/600, it's easier on the ears, and more pleasureable off many sources, while the 600ohm is a lot more finicky.
I'd say the DT990/32 is about 95% what the DT990/600 gives you overall, trading off a slight amount clarity, for a softer, more enjoyable (less analytical) signature.
Just my two cents.
The DT990/600 was my longest owned paired of cans (twice), so it's something when I say that I prefer the technically inferior, but more pleasureable 32ohm.
Then again, going with Beyer's track record at having wild variations in sound off the same headphone (T1's inconsistent sound quality, DT770/600's having a bass heavy and bass light variation, MMX300 also having a bass heavy and bass light variation... to name a few), I'm guessing Zombie's older DT990/32 may have sounded a bit different than my newer one.
