What's the difference in sound between the RS-2x and the RS-1x, anyone heard both?

When I tested for a couple of weeks side by side - RS2X were crisp, fast and had more sub bass but overly bright for my tastes. RS1X had less sub bass but somehow warmer, a ‘thicker sound’ (snares have a lovely weight) and masterful treble (all the detail but no harshness). No big difference in soundstage. The RS2X were a lot of fun, especially for laser beam-esque guitars, but offered a Grado sound that I was very familiar with. I don’t like to pad swap on Grados (after doing so a lot in my early days with the brand), so did find that it took the Mojo 2’s EQ settings to just nudge the bass up on the RS1X slightly to the point where I was fully happy with the sound.

All that said, the £200 difference isn’t negligible, and a lot the difference between the two could be bridged via judicious use of EQ if so inclined (which I know many aren’t, incl. myself with the exception of the RS1X).

I have been on the search for a new toy and been seriously looking at the gs3000e or x
But now I have retired I have to watch what I spend and the gs300x was a bit over budget for a toy
Part of the deal was I paid for my wife's handbag fixed + matching purse and I will spend the same on toy/headphones.
She now has her part of the deal completed and the bank is down £840.
She has informed me to watch out for the postman tomorrow as I have a surprise
The only clue is that the surprise sits on my head and begins with the letter G.
Please not let it be a Gucci hat

Hey now!

Would really appreciate any recommendations from experienced "tubers" out there. I want to do some tube rolling to make my Grado's shine! I have an OTL amp (Espressivio, from Feliks Audio). It has 2 6n30p power tubes and 2 6922 for "pre-amp". The Manuel suggests that you not change the 6n30p to any other type tube, the 6922 can be replaced with E88CC, 6N23P, 6DJ8.

Any recommendations for quality tubes would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Leo
For new production, I found the Genalex Gold Lion 6922/E88CC a good match with my Grado phones. For NOS, I'll defer to the experts. @bcowen is a good guy to ask about tubes.

I'll second this for new production tubes. I've got Genalex Gold Lions as well in my amp which really complement the Grado house sound very well.

Thanks. Just ordered a matched pair. I'll let you know what I think when I've had a chance to listen and compare.

Thanks for that, I run a 3db low shelf filter in reaeq via JRiver and it makes the RS-1x pretty much perfect to my ears.

Reason I was asking is that I've been wondering whether to target the Hemp or RS-2x in the future to add to my RS-1x and SR325x

hello
I wanted a Dac/amp for my grado rs1, I only listen to rock, I love the treble of the grado and did not want to lose these treble in a dac/amp.
Could you recommend me any?
Would the combination of my DAC from my realtek AL897 motherboard with an RA-1 grado look good?
thank you all
Up to $600 I just listen to Flac 24bits
please,
I'm lost

I've heard GS1000s but not RS-1s. Just from following this thread I surmised that the RS-2x's were darker and bassier than the RS-1x's.

Don't find the RS-2x's bright but years of using gen1 Beyer T1s may have gotten me accustomed to a brighter sound. The system matching is very important. I was previously using brighter needles and the T1s/RS-2x's were probably at the absolute limit of brightness while I was like "Why do people call these 6xx's dark? They're not at all!" Just switching to a darker needle has made the T1s/RS-2x's perfect while the 6xx's are now too dark with and too much midbass. Previously owned HF-1s and HF-2s and enjoyed them, but ended up selling them. RS-2x's give me the "I am never selling these as long as I live" feeling. :gs1000smile:
