They are hybrid amps. So, you sort of have to go into them with a certain expectation. IMO, the Vali2++ is spectacular (synergy) with Grado. I prefer it over the Lyr3. For the Vali2++ I recommend either the Tesla 6CC42 D getter and/or Mullard E188CC Holland (on adapter).
Fair enough on the hybrid thing. I don't find my iFi very tubey either. I picked up a Valhalla 2 OTL with several sets of good tubes. On top of that, one of the members here was kind enough to hook me up with three more sets of very nice tubes. As in more Amperex, Mullard and Brimar's.
Still not very tubey and this is an OTL amp. Not nearly as tubey as a Little Dot amp.
That is what I was told. But I was not going to spend hundreds on tubes for a $200.00 amp. Speaking in Canuck bucks and I bought used. It came with several tubes.
I was looking at buying a Lyr 3 and some experts here recommended trying out a Vali 2 to see if that was the sound I was looking for. It was bright, clear and plenty loud, but not for me. Sounded SS to me and I moved on.
Most of tube amps come with cheap tubes that sound very much like a SS amp. If you buy a tube amp tube rolling is a must. With the Vali2++ I use Philips Herleen PW 7062 tube, it costs as much as the Vali.
Something like Folkvangr is pure tube sound. You hear exactly what your tubes are because headphones are connected directly to tubes.

Hey, i'm having an argument with the person i sold my Hemp to and have a question for every Grado user, especially Hemp:
Is the driver always glued in position so it doesn't easily pop out?
I bought my Hemp new and it was like that, i didn't realize that there should be glue, and now the person i sold it to thinks it's a fake driver or something suspicious.
So what it should look like is this. The glue on my hemp was missing, from the start. Is this normal? Not normal?

Thank you for the heads up. Should be a good bit interesting. I’m listening to Los Lobos - Kiko with the the Uncrate UN2000e. Sounding extra good so far. The similar priced GS2000e $1400 when current was good but this Uncrate build is in another league.
This limited edition really sounds good with most of my electronics.
I had not seen or heard one for a number of years.
