I'm not sure that this is the best thread to bring this up. Lately I've been noticing that mp3s I buy and download from Amazon sound like they have too much treble. I've been noticing this both on my mp3 players and in my cars built in mp3 player. If I run the EQs flat, there seems to be too much in the highs. I'm looking at my M3K, and after doing some testing around, I decided that I needed to boost the bass a little and turn down the 4K. But the sounds that are bothering me seem to be in between the 1K and 4K. I don't understand what is happening because it was back in early 2000s when I got into mp3s. Back then 128 CBR sounded really good to me. I experimented by creating mp3s with even lower bit rates. What I could hear back then is that the highs became slurred, and gradually disappeared, leaving me with a more bass sounding files. Of course I had no plans to listen to music this way, I just wanted to understand what happened as I lowered quality. But these days the opposite is happening to me. Since I have a huge collection of 128s I was going to convert all the Amazon downloads into that. But I noticed that the highs were bothering me, so I quit doing this, and just started running them as is. Which should be the better quality as far as mp3s are concerned. For a while this seemed to solve my situation. But recently I bought several albums from Amazon mp3 and the highs started bothering me again. Maybe I need to get my hearing checked out.

I want you to understand something right up front. 90 percent of all the music I listen too is copyrighted. Therefor I can not share anything I own for you to listen too. However, I can compromise by giving you some youtube samples that someone else already uploaded, and tell you that it is very close to what I'm experiencing with the Amazon downloads of the same mp3 album. If you think this is too bright or too high too, then chances are it isn't just my hearing.

Dear friend,

Maybe you could create a playlist which included all the files in the folder and the sub-folder for help instead?

Best regards

Yep, that's what I did - and it worked.

It would be nice if there was a way shuffle play could move thru all the folders without having to re-make a playlist every time I move files onto and off the card.

My fiio m3k can't detect the SD card after waking from sleep mode or turning it off. It says "No music found." When I tried to re-scan or browse files nothing can be found. I have to take out and re-insert the SD card for player to detect the card, the auto scan to kick-in and my music files to re-appear. Anybody else has this issue? I'm using sandisk 128gb micro-sd card with firmware 1.2.2.

Dear friend,

Please try to update the firmware and try another sd card first to see if it helps?
After waking from sleep mode, you would read the music files from file browser or category?

Best regards

I don't use a playlist, I just pick a song from Category > All Songs, enable shuffle and let it play. If you have scanned the SD card, it should play all the songs in random order.

Hello,
As I filed my 64 g card have copied to 128 sandisk.
In browse mode player sees all.
BUT,
even after many factory resets can not get it to see all 13,000 songs and seems to retain memory from first card.
Can any explain how to fully delete and media update ok?
I tried auto update also, with card in and out.
Always stops at exact same number of songs 8374 driving me crazy as can not shuffle ALL songs.
Any and all ideas, suggestions welcome.
I have not updated firmware as when have done with many other devises has made worse not better.
I love how it sounds and with my FiiO A3 amp and great Koss ksc 75 an enjoying a lot.
Sure would be nice to get it to see all songs in "CATEGORY" mode.
Thank you!

I'd recommend getting latest firmware, I've had no issues, it adds custom EQ although lags in UI a bit when EQ is applied (I don't use EQ).
You could try renaming the disk name of the memory card in Windows to see if that forces it to recompile the media list, no idea if it would though.
Tbh I forget modern players even have a category mode compiled from tags as I've only ever used the folder browse function, not sure I could cope with that many files on a DAP at once, I was going to buy a 256gb card but even with flac I find 128gb is more than enough.

Will there be ReplayGain in upcoming firmware?
Dear friend,

Thanks for your kind feedback. We have reported to the engineer about that and we will try to assess first.

It seems the m3k has a problem with 128gb sd card. Even if i already updated the firmware to 1.3 and formatted it to FAT32 the problem still persists. The solution is I replaced it with 32gb FAT32 sd card and all is well and good. No problem whatsoever.

It may well be a problem with your particular 128GB card, I have an old Toshiba 128GB card full of flac files and it works absolutely fine. It might be worth checking the cluster size on the 128gb card, it should be 32kb by default but you may find lowering it to 16kb or whatever the default is of the 32gb card may help.

Yep. My Samsung 128 gb works fine. Only sometimes it freezes while updating the library after new files have been added but a single reboot fixes this. No problems with losing track of songs, freezing or rebooting after that.

Just curious since i want to buy dap which is on my budget. I have two options now. Both preloved and cost the same: xduoo x3 & fiio m3k. Can you compare both DAP? sound wise, file support, interface, and durability, in terms of today.

Cheers
