No debating the bass...it's the best I ever heard. But what about the upper mids and lower treble? I couldn't tolerate either. Any better with the Cayin versus other DAPs?
This isn't an attempt to troll - it's a genuine question.

I was in a similar condition. after an extensive (and I mean very extensive, more than 150hrs) burnin, situation got much better. upper mids are still a little bit more than I prefer, but definitely no more untolerable as before, to the point I have moved to my personal preferred tips/cable combination, i.e. Xinhs Graphene 8 cores + Azla light short.
using a DX300 amp11.2 and NOS filter.
this way EVO is really very enjoyable, still not recommended for music like metal or similar, but definitely very good for anything else. and, btw, I think details level on EVO is very good, maybe I'm deaf but I find EVO very detailed, not at - say - QDC VX/V14 level, but still very very good.

Oops. I could not resist and bought an Odin again... I found them way too forward the first time... but I now know better which genres to match them with and which to avoid, and I managed to get the upper mids of the EVO under control... So I will try again. They are so beautiful and sound great, other than the upper mids... So fingers crossed...

Nice. You are on a mission lately! I'll revisit Odin someday myself too. With C9, the Tubes/ Class AB combo tamed the mids. Will be good to hear how people with the N8ii find Odin.

For what it is worth, I ordered a pair of custom art custom fit eat tips for my EVO, and they work fantastically. Super comfortable, they only make the earphones sit slightly further out from standard ear tips—not really visually noticeable) and the BC driver still works it’s magic, perhaps even more effectively than with regular tips. It’s not exactly the same as full customs, but in the ear it feels the same. They hadn’t done a pair of EVO tips before, but they had done several pairs for Odins, so I had them make Odin tips recognizing that the nozzles are quite similar in size and they worked great on both Odin and EVO (they also work on my trailli, which has a larger bore because they are flexible silicon).

Anyway, if anyone is wishing EVO came in custom form, this is a way to have the best of both worlds. I haven’t noticed any negative effect on the sound in any way—I actually think the sound has improved because of better seal and very effective BC.

I find the Lotoo Ti to also tame the heightened mids on the Odin.
