So I've spent the last few hours of the night reading and scouring through all these threads on bass headphones and dubstep but i cant find anything that pertains to me.

Budget: 250USD max, probably about 150-200 though.
Music: Dubstep - Rusko, Flux Pavilion, Emalkay, Little Jinder, DeadMau5, Zeds Dead, Nero, Blue Foundation, etc. (Skrillex is garbage)
Type: Over the ear cans, closed obviously.
Preferred Brand: None really. I was leaning toward a few. ATH Pro 700MK2, Ultrasone 580/780, DT 770 Pro (not sure on 80 or 250), XB 500. And more.
Amped: Yes and no. I have an JDS O2 amp but was thinking something that runs good unamped and sounds great amped. I might buy a FiiO e17 in the future. (I notice I can get an e10 or e7 for under 60 bucks new. Anyone recommend a good DAC/AMP?)


Will be using Amazon probably to order.


So fellas. Any ideas?

The crossfade LP might be more to OP's taste if all they listen to is dubstep. It's also cheaper.

Its hard to find them though. I've tried and they are out of stock everywhere?

My vote goes to either the hifi-580 or the dt770. And for an amp, the e11 will do fine for portable uses. Its the same as the e17 minus the dac, and its much cheaper as well. I would go for the 250 beyer if you get the e11.

So no one for ath m50s or ath pro 700? What about CALs? I hear their good. I just wanted a decent closed back headphone with bass. I listen to classic rock and dubstep. Country as well. . These cans will be mostly used for dub as I have some Q701 and vPulse ear buds.

I have the HFI-780 and listen to some Infected Mushroom, Deadmau5, Orbital,

Shpongle etc...​

All driven from a Sansa Clip+ through a FiiO E11, the Clip+ has no problem driving these headphones I just like that extra volume and Bass boost sometimes.​

The 780 are more refined than the bassier 580, but you can still feel the bass in the 780's
 
I haven't heard the M50's or the Pro 700's so I can't comment on those.

I've heard the m50s, but i didn't like them that much. I'm not sure about the pro 700s. If you listen to other genres as well, consider the denon d2ks if you can get a decent price on them. They're better all rounders than any of the headphones listed above. They don't seal very well though, so if you plan on using them as portable phones they wouldn't work very well.

aiaiai TMA-1 should be a better alternative for all of the headphones mentioned.
 
scratch out CAL! to your list, they wont have that same amount of bass with other headphones mentioned here
 
but personally i'd take a used xb1000 because it doesnt hurt my head when the bass starts playing because im not a basshead guy hehe

I don't like Dubstep and I don't like Ultrasones, but if I did like dubstep I would probably love Ultrasones, if that makes any sense. They capture that same "floor just dropped out from under you" bass depth.

That is sexy.

So I read HFI 580 and 780 are different in that the 780s have a muddy base but refined high while the 580s sub 200 sound great while the highs lack.

So I guess I'm down to the Ultrasones or DTs. I hear the AiAiAi are intense. If anyone has heard the 700 lmk. Thanks all.

DT 770 pro 80Ω, AKG K550, or Ultrasone HFI-780.
The AKG K550 is overall the best of the three, but is just outside your price range, and gives a little in bass power for clarity.

I've been wanting some K550s for awhile now but I hear mixed reviews. I really want to listen to a pair.

Which of all these cans seal the best too?


But yeah I'd love D2000s or K550s with an e17.

The 580's highs don't "lack" that's for sure. I got rid of mine because the highs were too bright for me despite how impressed I was with the bass. The M-Audio Q-40s have similar bass quantity, a little less tight, but more relaxed treble.
 
The 580s are one of those headphones that sounds how it looks. They have a really industrial, metallic sound that's good for pushing a lot of energy out of electronica but I found it pretty miserable for acoustic music. Bass and treble are extremely pronounced but the mids sound "fake".
