Decided to pull the trigger on the D2000.  Didn't want to burn this much money and kind of regretted buying them.  But getting them in the mail and listening to them, that feeling is disappearing real quick.  I'm liking the sound more than my GR07 so far.  Going to listen to it some more after work.

I have both :) D2000 and GR07 projects the music in the same way imo except D2000 emphasize its bass. Like the bass presentation is very similar - linear, subass, decay etc. They are obviously different but I find GR07 the most similar to the Denon sound.

Not sure do you understand what I mean. Even I struggle comprehending what I just wrote.

I think the FX700 has a similar sound to my Denon 5000s unmodded.

Makes sense to me.  Kind of funny cause I asked around for cans that had a similar sound to my GR07 since I was selling them for a can replacement.  At the time I was looking at FA-003, Beyer Dynamics 770, and so forth.  I was pretty set on the 770s, but for some reason I was drawn to the D2000, read some reviews and took the plunge.  After a good long listening session last night, very very happy with my choice.  Since I don't own my GR07 anymore I can't compare the two side by side.  I don't know how people seem to remember the sound signature so well, maybe I'm just not experienced enough.

I just bought the Denon D5000s and love the sound quality. However, compared to my Audio-Technica M50s the mids seem very recessed. The quality of the mids is much better than the M50s but I would like it to be more forward. Will the Markl mod fix this issue for me without adding too much sibilance?

Thanks to Headfi and this thread, I can express appreciation in helping me decide on getting Denon D5000 and at a price I can afford. Initial search turned up prices out of reach, such as $700.00 even at a store like B&H, where I had been getting my DSLR camera gear for years. Electronics Expo had open box and I scored them for $373.00 plus shipping. I listened to D7000 at B&H (only Denon model available to listen to) and liked what I heard, although it was music that the store imposed, running into all the headphones in the display. At some point, I'll bring the D5000 there and look to plug it into their source and do an A/B between it and the D7000 just out of curiosity.

Just wanted to add that I have been enjoying my d2k set for about six months. They are my go to headphones and I don't ever see myself selling. I would have liked one of the higher end Denon's but I'm a tried and true bang for the buck guy. And I'm very happy with how they sound. They are fun and musical and I find myself listening to the music and not listening to the sound made by the headphones. I often recommend these to people who I looking to get into midfi...

When you get D2000s, they will sound worse before they sound better (in terms of burn-in). Make sure you burn it in thoroughly so you can evaluate the headphone on its true sound signature.

But they are great. I'm probably going to keep mine for several years, I can't see myself upgrading to a 800 buck headphone for a long time.

Just out of curiousity, for all the D2000 users what kind of source are you running your headphones through?  I'm more curious to see what kind of AMP/DAC you may be using but also do you primarily listen out of your computer, ipod, etc?

I recently used a Fiio E10 AMP/DAC with my D2000 and although I believe the sound quality was better I'm not really sure where exactly it improved (I'm fairly new to audiophile type headphones).  Overall the sound just sounded clearer especially at higher volumes.

I sold the E10 because I think I may want something more portable (E17 maybe) or maybe even a tube amp as I've heard these types of amps drive the denons well (is this correct?).

For those who have experimented, any preferences for a DAC or AMP with the D2000s?

I hate to be guy talking about random rumors, but was going to test listen D2000 on Finland's largest nerdy gadget/PC/sound shop, with me starting to talk about representative from the shop who was specialized on headphones. Had pretty mind blowing amount knowledge about headphone in general. Just like me, he also happened to had found home from Denon's in-ears and headphones.

Cutting to the chase he said that Denon is bringing big revamp to it's line up in summer. Replacing D2000 and D5000, with D7000 staying on as it is. There would also be two new in-ears. Funny part was that i was walking into shop to buy the D2000, me being ready to buy them after testing them out, but he said to wait. Be this true or not, for me waiting till around July fits very nicely, if D2000 is replaced i would buy the original ones for cheaper price.

So is this general knowledge, or all of it makes no sense and he is talking out of his ass?
