Hey, I plan on buying a J3 soon. Can I use PDFs with this? Also, I don't know if I already posted this, but when you use a microSD card, does the library show the music as one library or do they split the files according to their source?

I don't know about pdf files. My guess is no but never tried it. Pictures such as jpeg files work fine however.

The microSDHC card depends on how your access your files. They are split into two if you browse by folder but if it is by your id3 tags then it shows as one.

So if I just want to see all songs, it'll show every file in say, alphabetical order combined? I just want to make sure it isn't too complicated to add a memory card.

It's very simple - plug the sd card and the j3 can read the files as one big folder or as 2 separate - depending where you look inside the J3

No worries this is easy to handle.

Alright, thanks. One more question. I plan on getting a 16gb microSD card. Does it really matter which class I get? Will getting a class 2 card cause slowdowns or pauses?

I need to get myself one of those soon, my music collection is about 8 times bigger then my j3's memory so choosing the right albums becomes more and more difficult. Just one question, because I can never get a sd card reader to function properly, is it possible to store songs on the sd card through the j3?

4th day of having the J3 and i have to say this , although it may sadden some people here (unless they think the same as i do)

RE-252 pawns RE-262 when used with the J3.

Listening to FLAC-only files , i catch myself not being able to enjoy the 262/j3 synergy and changing to 252 - the J3 seems a tad on the warm side and the 252 react better than the 262 ( i will try eq'ing a 262-only user program...)

It may be a starting thing , but for now this is how my ears react to.

At least , saves me the trouble of buying an arrow for the J3/262 combo , since the 252 drives the J3 more than fine (24-25/40 when the 262 goes to 31-33/40 )

And guys get yourselves the Ringke silicone case , it's A-MA-ZING.

I'm considering 'upgrading' from a Sony NWZ HD5 to a Cowon J3.  As you may know the sony was/is considered a good sounding player when it came out a few years ago.  Will I notice the diff with the Cowon J3?

Class 2 card works fine. I really don't see the need for a higher speed class at least for my uses. I do all my file transfers from the J3 so no separate card reader and no issues at all. You can get a higher class if you want but if you are going to transfer files from within the J3 then it's a waste to get higher than class 2.

@proedros: 31-33/40 is pretty loud even with the RE262 unless you have that European volume limiting setting.

No i have the US setting , but i have a lot of vinyl rips which are mastered way less loud than the typical cd versions...

And i may be a bit deaf as well lol

where do you get one ?

anyone using it with an impedance adapter? seems pretty mandatory on these not for the hiss (though it would help if there is any), but because it fixes the rolled off bass.

Hello fellow J3 owners.  I have read some posts a while ago about the bottom corner of the J3 lifting up.  After having finally removed it from the case for a cleaning I think mine may be exhibiting this issue.

I have tried to capture in a couple of photographs, the second one with my finger holding the lifted part down.  It seems to be the screen piece that comes up.  Is this similar to others' issue with the lifted corner?  Less or more extreme?

I have only dropped the J3 once, and it was not the worst of electronics mishaps and don't think it led to this.  I was skeptical of the plastic materials at first and very lightweight feel, but even the Sony X series I owned before was not 100% perfect.  Its just a shame that there are always these little issues that peeve me.
