I have the E9s coming in today, actually. Can't wait to try it!

I have the E9 coming but unfortunately, I don't think I'll be upgrading from the E7/E9 combo in the near future.  I'm a little concerned that the output impedance of the E9s might be a little high for the K702; should I be?

No. I don't think so. Worst case scenario, bass will get a bit "boomier" and under-damped - but I doubt it. The 702, despite their nominal impedence are very well controlled phones.

I use both the AH-D2000 and DT990 ( 250 Ohm ) with an m903 love how they compliment each other.  The DT990 is one of the headphones that scale tremendously well with better equipment.  I did not receive the full effect of the DT990 until I heard it through the m903.  The DT990 is airy and slightly bright while the D2000 is dense and slightly dark.  They make such an awesome combo.

where does the hd 650 fall in between these two?

i know when i heard my dt 990s vs my hd 650s, i just liked the dt 990 more. its alot more fun and while it has a V-shaped curve, it doesn't necessarily sound like it all the  time, out of my system it just sounds fun and pretty balanced, and now that they're burning in more, the mids have come out more, the bass cleaned up a bit, and the highs became less sibilant and less harsh, so now i've completely fallen in love with my dt 990s

Very nice review. Can't agree with you more regarding the AKG. They are NOT too analytical, bass lacking, or boring sounding with a good amp. I have the AKG Q701 which allow me to change to a better cable (I like the silver cables with them). They are not as good as my HD800, but the HD 800 is no where better by 4x. $400 vs $1600 (in Canada)

The OPA2134 in the FIio E9 is what does it with certain op-amps in the path, tho the Fiio E9 op-amp can be changed as it uses Machine Sockets. But the user would need a torx T5 screw driver, I changed the op-amp in my Fiio E9 because of the OPA2134. I didnt like what it did to the bass with the op-amps I was using in my sound card. So I changed it to a LT1364, I was gonna put 2 LT1028 in it but I didnt have a small enough Dual dip to single dip adapter.

The op-amp behind the 6.3 hp jack is the op-amp for both headphones out. While the other Two is for the RCA's out.

The K70x series have a fairly flat impedance curve so you are not going to get much frequency response contortions from an amp with a moderately high output impedance.
The Woo may be a vacuum tube amp, but it has an output transformer.  With a little feedback it may easily have an output impedance of 1 or 2 ohms.

Nice "REVIEW" by the way. I enjoyed it! Very informative.
I hope to get a Woo WA6SE........................someday.

I bet on Beyerdinamic DT990 :)
Compared to HD650 - feel solid, not plastic and fit better than SH.

build quality is better on the dt 990s, dt 990 is funner, but hd 650 is good too when u just wanna relax and listen to music for a while.

AKG feel solid and fit very good as DT990 but i have never listen them on a good Audio system.

akg's are awesome :)

SR325 can not say anything about them, but every single person must go and try all of them personally.

SR325 is way different than akg, more forward mids, less soundstage, and very fun to listen to with certain types of music. they are however uncomfortable for me sometimes, still really good though.

BTW
I met James Wu (Mr. Woo Audio) at the TAVES show in Toronto a couple weeks ago. He was demonstrating is HP amps of course.  Nice guy and his amps sound great. I think he had 6 different sets of headphones to use with his amps: Grado 1000 (I think), AKG K701, S/H HD800, Beyer T1 and a couple others I can't recall.

I spent most of my time trying out a WA6 and WA6SE with various headphones.  Great sounding amps. Someday........

Before you leap, you might want to check out the T70 and the 1350. I have not heard either, but you might be able to save a good deal of money. Currently I listen primarily to AKG K701 (couldn't abide the muffled HD 650, and I wanted to like it). But I respect the K701 more than I like it, and I do find it bass-shy. I have often thought about getting the Beyer DT 880, 600 ohm version, but I have never quite been able to pull the trigger (have yet to hear them).

I have a pair of AKG Q701 'phones and am looking to buy another set of 'phones.
Does anyone think DT 880s would be a nice alternate headphone?
Or Grado 225, 325, RS2?
I listen to a broad selection of music, classic rock, classic jazz, blues, classical music, some modern pop, Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Little Feat.

Thanks,
C.
